The heat was on in the Brunswick Secondary College kitchens last week, as our talented senior students battled it out in the highly anticipated Senior MasterChef competition.
With the clock ticking and the pressure high, contestants opened their Mystery Boxes to reveal a truly unique challenge with an Indigenous twist: risoni, sour cream, mandarins, chicken thighs, pear, warrigal greens, wattle seeds, vine-ripened mini tomatoes, potato, haloumi, and red chilli.
From this eclectic mix, they were tasked with creating a dish worthy of the title Senior MasterChef and the prestigious Golden Whisk trophy.
The kitchen came alive with the sounds of sizzling haloumi, the aroma of sautéing herbs and spices, and the vibrant colours of fresh produce being prepared with care. Competitors demonstrated remarkable creativity and skill, blending unexpected flavours, experimenting with textures, and presenting dishes that were just as visually stunning as they were delicious.
Our esteemed judging panel – Mr Gemmola, Mr Roberts, and Amelia Freeman (Year 12) – faced the tough task of tasting and scoring each creation based on taste, presentation, and creativity. After much deliberation, the winners were announced, earning the coveted Senior MasterChef trophy.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our judges for giving their time and expertise, to Sophia Kastropil for her incredible photography capturing the energy and excitement of the event, and to the Food Studies staff, whose hard work made the competition possible.

Going into the MasterChef competition I was both excited and worried as it was one of my first times using a professional camera! I enjoyed this experience of meeting and seeing all these wonderful people working, as well as taking photos of everyone in action and their final products.
All the dishes were absolutely stunning in both looks and taste, I loved every bite!
Congratulations to all competitors for their effort, creativity, and sportsmanship. Once again you have proven that BSC students are just as impressive in the KITCHEN as they are in the CLASSROOM!
