Physical Education

This week in PE...

Prep

This week in PE, our Prep students will continue developing their underarm throwing skills, with a focus on improving accuracy, control, and consistency.

During the lesson, students will:

  • Revisit the key elements of the underarm throw (step, swing, release)
  • Take part in partner and group activities that involve aiming at both stationary and moving targets
  • Engage in fun, game-based challenges that promote teamwork and problem-solving

The goal this week is to refine technique through repetition and purposeful practice, helping students gain greater confidence and success when throwing. As always, the emphasis remains on having fun, encouraging effort, and fostering a positive attitude toward physical activity and skill development.

Year 1 & 2

This week in PE, our Year 1 and 2 students will continue developing their basketball skills, with a focus on dribbling under pressure and in game-like situations.

Students will:

  • Practise dribbling while navigating obstacles and space
  • Learn how to maintain control when moving at different speeds
  • Work on protecting the ball from others using body positioning
  • Take part in small-sided games and activities to apply skills in context

The lesson is designed to build on last week’s foundations, encouraging students to use their dribbling skills with greater confidence and purpose, all while having fun and collaborating with classmates.

Year 3 & 4

This week in PE, our Year 3 and 4 students will continue to strengthen their ball control in basketball through more challenging and dynamic activities.

Students will practise:

  • Dribbling with increased control using both hands
  • Performing controlled movements such as pivoting and changing direction under pressure
  • Navigating space while keeping the ball protected
  • Participating in fun individual and partner challenges to reinforce ball-handling skills

The focus remains on building confidence, coordination, and control with the basketball. These skills are essential for successful game play and will be further developed in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Year 5 & 6

This week in PE, our Year 5 and 6 students will continue to refine their ball control in basketball, with a focus on applying these skills in more complex, game-like situations.

Students will work on:

  • Dribbling under defensive pressure to maintain possession
  • Combining dribbling with quick changes of direction and speed
  • Using pivoting and shielding techniques to protect the ball
  • Participating in small-sided games and competitive drills to test control in real-time scenarios

This lesson supports the development of composure, agility, and smart decision-making under pressure. Students will continue to grow in confidence as they use their ball-handling skills in fast-paced, team-oriented activities.
