🤸Gymnastics Reminder

Our students have been so excited to engage in our gymnastics program. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for this type of activity (no dresses or tights). Due to the extra physical activity please ensure that your child has extra snacks packed in their lunchbox. 

 

CURRICULUM

📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics

Please see below our phonics focus for this week and our literacy focus. 

 

Grade One Students 

Grade One's will be learning about  trigraphs 'dge' making /j/(eg: fridge) and 'tch' making /ch/ (eg: stitch)

Grade Two Students 

Grade Two's will look at 'ou' and 'ow' spelling pattern like in the words out and now. We will also be reviewing the vowel teams and diphthongs that we have learnt.

 📖✏️Literacy

Mentor Text: Poem about the history of Wonga Park

Students will be reading and annotating a letter from a pretend student who attended Wonga Park PS in 1895. They will also be replying to this student and looking closely at letter structure. 

 

What can you do at home?

-Nessy is a great resource to use to supplement your child's reading in a fun engaging way on their iPad

-Ask comprehension questions about your child's take home book or a book you read together 

 

➕Maths

Grade One:

⚖️ Students will be exploring a series of lessons on Mass

Vocabulary related to this learning area: balance, weigh, mass, lighter, heavier, compare, informal, formal

 

Grade Two:

Students will be exploring a series of lessons on Capacity

Vocabulary related to this learning area: capacity, measure, volume, pour, hold, container

 

What can you do at home:

-Talk with your child about mass and capacity while you're cooking together in the kitchen

-Engage with mathseeds (Grade One) or mathletics (Grade Two)

 

🧑‍💻 Cyber Safety 

This term we will be exploring Cyber Safety. Our focus this week will be teaching students how to stay safe from strangers, tricky people, and unkind behaviour online.

 

🌏 CBL - Change 

This term our whole school will be celebrating our school's 135th birthday. Our CBL big idea, Change, lends itself to discovering a lot about how Wonga Park has changed over this time.
