Year 7

The Year 7 Team welcomes year 7 students to their second semester of secondary school
Now that students have settled into the school, we are starting the term strong by setting high expectations for all our students. We know as educators that setting high expectations and believing that our students can succeed has a strong correlation with academic success. We will be explicitly teaching students to move beyond their comfort zone to challenge themselves and grow in their learning.
This term, students will have the opportunity to participate in the Stand-Up Project where they will learn to be upstanders to discourage antisocial behaviours. The program enhances students' understanding of bullying, discrimination and harassment by focusing on the key drivers and impacts. Students also explore how their values and personality shape behaviour while learning upstander strategies to promote positive social norms within their cohort.
If you have not yet done so, please approve the event on Compass so that your child can participate. Any student not participating will be given alternative work to complete.
Let’s focus on setting high expectations within the classroom and outside of the classroom together.
Year 7 Boys Netball
In week three, a team of eleven boys in year seven competed in Regionals Netball and were undefeated for the entirety of the tournament until they faced up against the avengers of netball and got smashed by 21 points.
Despite this, the team had fun and are very grateful for the opportunity to represent Berwick College. Captain Jack and Vice-Captain Aarlo
Year 7/8 Girls AFL
On the 30th of July, the girls footy team went to Division to participate in the AFL competition. We played three games leading up to finals. The first game we played, we won. It was a really good win as we hadn't played together before. After the first game we had a good 40-minute break to get ready for our second game. Our second game we tied but we thought we won by one point as did the other school, so they ended up putting it a tie. This worked out well for us because we had to win all three games to go to finals but because the other school lost their first game our tie ended up being our second win. Finally, after a one-hour break, we had our last game. This was a win or lose situation; if we won, we go to finals but if we lose, we go home. Luckily, we won. The other school didn't make it easy though, at one stage they were winning then we were, but in the end we won. Now it was finals which was very unfortunate as we lost but besides that we have enjoyed a good competition, and we all fought for the ball. So, we ended up getting 2nd place and we were all very happy and we all had a good day. Konstandina
Debate Incursion
On the 30th of June, the year 7 High Achievers' participated in a debating event, along with the year 7 Clyde Secondary College High Achievers' class. It took place in the Library and started first thing in the morning. The classes were broken into groups, holding mini debates against each other and learning about the skills and etiquette of debate. It was an amazing and insightful experience that enhanced our debating and public speaking abilities. Year 9 debaters from Clyde came along to the event to act as mentors, guiding and teaching us about the art of debate. As they had previous debating experience, they had a bunch of tips and tricks to uplevel our knowledge and understanding. Additionally, we would just like to thank Mrs Morcheck, the HAP Coordinator and our amazing Librarian, for organising the event and to our incredible English teacher, Ms McCann, for helping run the event so smoothly. P.S. the food was delicious, thanks! P.P.S. sorry for taking up the library for the whole day!!! Shachi and Annika
