Nicole Arthurson (née Westmorland) – Class of 2013
From the textiles room at Berwick College to styling events featured in Vogue Australia, Nicole Westmorland is proof that creativity, vision, and drive can lead to bold, beautiful places. Her career journey-spanning fashion, sustainability, and large-scale event styling continues to inspire.
Designing with Purpose
Nicole’s love for textiles was sparked early at Berwick College, where her creative potential was nurtured by her textiles teacher, Mrs Robyn Kamoda. With after-school support that went above and beyond, Nicole began building the foundation for a thriving design career. After graduating in 2013, she pursued a Bachelor of Design at RMIT University, majoring in Textiles and Surface Design. After completing her degree, she joined the Cotton On Group as a Graphic Designer and Trend Assistant for Rubi Shoes, later becoming a lead Textile Designer at Supre, working on prints, embroidery, and graphics.
A Shift Toward Sustainability
Motivated by growing concern for the environmental impact of fast fashion, Nicole launched her own slow fashion and upcycled label, showcased at Melbourne Fashion Week 2019 with a runway at Bunjil Place. The collection was praised for its creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability-earning her recognition in the local design community and beyond. Alongside this, Nicole freelanced as a textile and graphic designer, developing ranges across fashion, beauty, homewares, pet, and DIY categories for major Australian retailers such as Just Jeans, Dotti, Kmart, Big W, Target, Bunnings, and more.
Styling on a Whole New Scale
Not content with staying in one creative lane, Nicole moved into event styling. She joined One Martini Please as Head of Planning & Styling, where she delivered high-impact designs for private and commercial events. Her ability to transform spaces through bold vision and refined aesthetics saw her quickly promoted to General Manager-now overseeing both One Martini Please and sister brand One Mimosa Please.
In her current role, Nicole leads creative direction, team management, and client experience across activations, launches, and bespoke weddings. Her team’s work has even been featured in Vogue Australia!
A Berwick All-Rounder
Nicole’s memories of Berwick College extend beyond the classroom. She was a proud member of the Netball and Volleyball teams, competing in interschool tournaments under the guidance of her coaches, Linda Bourke and Jonathon Rogers.
Nicole’s story reminds us that when you follow your creative spark-and back it with hard work and heart-there’s no limit to what you can design, build, or become.
Thank you, Nicole, for sharing your journey. We hope to welcome you back soon to help inspire the next generation of Berwick designers, makers and innovators.
