Leading a school culture of high expectations and respectful relationships
Next week, year 7 and 9 parents will receive their child's NAPLAN results. I personally congratulate all students on their achievement.
I was delighted to announce that Berwick Collee performed extremely well this year. In Year 7 Reading, Writing and Numeracy, the percentage of Berwick College students who have achieved either an Exceeding or Strong proficiency level is higher than the average result across the State - and across our network of local schools.
In Year 9 Reading and Writing, the percentage of students achieving either an Exceeding or Strong proficiency level also exceeds that of both the State average and our network schools.
In almost all measures, Berwick College has a significant improvement in its performance compared to 2024. The school results exceed the State results across the board and in most instances also exceed network school results.
I pay tribute to the teachers who have dedicated themselves to delivering a rigorous learning program. They have done so with such skill and such commitment to student achievement. This commitment is reflected in these improved results.
On Tuesday, 7th August, all staff participated in a professional learning program. Both teaching staff and Education Support staff were presented with the Annual Implementation Plan in which the school has mapped its work in response to achievement and engagement data. Teachers then participated in a range of workshops designed to adjust pedagogy (the action of teaching) to effectively engage all students. Over the coming weeks, students will participate in feedback surveys as teachers evaluate the impact of their new instructional strategies. The remainder of the day was committed to documenting a guaranteed viable curriculum.
We are excited to begin this term, the important work of forming a new Vision, Mission and school Values, that will underpin and align the actions and expectations of our school community, and which authentically reflect the wider community. We will be inviting parents and students to be part of this significant work in upcoming focus groups and through surveys in the next few weeks. If you would like to be a part of a focus group and having a real and lasting impact for our school community, please send an expression of interest to berwick.sc@education.vic.gov.au. Up to three groups of 10 will be able to participate on a 'first in first served' basis.
