SAKG

We’ve had an action-packed fortnight in our garden! We’re thrilled to announce that our new garden space is now complete. Everyone is invited to take a stroll through and enjoy the space.
This week, we’ll be filling the garden beds with specially formulated wicking soil which wicks the water from the base of the bed into the soil above.
In preparation for spring, students have been busy removing winter weeds before they flower and set seed. We also used a plant ID app to try and identify the weeds growing around our school.
To protect our compost bins from local wildlife, our students have cleverly installed wire mesh at the bottom, helping to keep out unwanted visitors.
A big shout-out to our Grade 5 students, who have selected summer seeds from the Diggers Club website. They’ll be nurturing these seedlings in our greenhouse to plant out in spring. We’re excited to see their efforts come to life and look forward to using the homegrown produce in our school kitchen!
Sugar Glider Census Volunteer Call out!
In October, volunteers from the Montmorency Sugar Glider Project will be conducting a census of all the glider boxes in Monty. The group has asked if any students and families would like to take part. It is a whole day of activity where you will use a camera on a pole to check boxes for gliders, some of which are on our school grounds. It is a great opportunity to get up close to a sugar glider and learn the importance of habitat for their survival.
