Students are invited to dress up in their House colours — Avoca: Purple/Blue, Calder: Green/Yellow — and take part in the Best Dressed competition at 9:00am.

Year 1/2 Literacy:
In Literacy, students have been writing their cold task to show what they already know about Procedures. Students were hooked into their new model text (How to tame a Wild Thing) by listen to the story Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. The students have also started studying fables and have learn that fables are a short story that covey a moral.
100 Days of Foundation:
On Monday our Foundation Class celebrated 100 Days of School! They were beyond excited to reach this first big milestone in their schooling journey!
Today, the Foundation class visited Charlton Early Years Centre, it was wonderful to see both familiar faces and new friends!
Book Tasting
On Friday the 25th of July students in the 5-6 classroom took part in a Book Tasting. Students entered a restaurant-like setting (including vases of flowers and tablecloths on the tables). Students took a seat and “sampled” 5 different books. After checking out the front and back covers, students spent a few minutes browsing through the book to develop their first impressions. They then wrote down their observations. The process was repeated until the students had tasted the five books and they then ranked the books in order of their favourites. The students’ favourite books will now be used for their Book Club groups.

Book Review by Thomas F
Tom recommended the book Star Wars 'The Empire Strikes Back by Donald F. Glut. The book is set in Hoth, Dagobah, Space and Cloud City. The main characters are Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, R2-D2, C-3PO and Yoda. After the rebels are defeated on Hoth, Luke and his friends are hunted down by Boba Fett who was hired by Vader while Han is frozen in Carbonite on Cloud City. On Dagobah, Luke is trained by Yoda to be a Jedi. He would recommend the book to Grade 6 students and above and rates it 5/5 stars.
Sovereign Hill 3-6 Report from Students:
We played murder in the dark at night which ended up in lots of injuries. Most of us found lots of gold which was brilliant. Everyone almost died of eating millions of lollies. We went on two mine tours. Finally, we went to the Aura night show which everyone loved. -Tom M
The time we had to go to sleep was terrible. It was at 9:30. Good things were buying the lollies, going into the mines and the night show. The gold panning was good but we left too early and we didn’t have a chance to get any. Also, we made a stepping stone in the middle of the creek so our shoes ended up wet. The gold challenge was a scam; the gold bar was bolted in and there was no chance to get it out. -Don
I liked the Aura show. I liked getting lollies. I liked getting to do candle dipping. I liked falling down the side of the beds. I liked chugging lollies. -Noah
One of my favourite things I did at Sovereign Hill was panning and going down to the mines. I learnt a lot. It was pitch black in the mines and I could not see my friends. I was relieved when I saw the light. During the panning I succeeded in finding gold with help from Tom M. I loved visiting Sovereign Hill. 😃-Wally
I loved the Aura light show. I tried to jump from one bed to the other but I landed on my left leg. Then I fell on my left leg again. I loved buying the lollies. Don threw both my candles across the room. -Tyson
We went into the mines and it was so fun and we went gold panning. I loved the raspberry drops. I found lots of gold. And me and molly had lots of fun. -Hazel
We went gold panning and Ned fell in the waterfall then we play parkour on the rocks. Then we went back to the cabins and played murder in the dark and then everyone went psycho from eating lollies.🥳🥳The day after we went candle dipping and Don threw Tyson’s candle across the cabin and snapped his own. We went to the Aura light show on Tuesday night. It was the goat. -Campbell
On camp we made candles by dipping them in hot wax, we figured out that the mining company asked the candle makers to make a specific colour so that if they see a miner with that colour candle then they would have stolen it. I went gold panning and I found gold and took it home and put it over light and it looked amazing. We also went down the mines and saw a replica of the Welcome Nugget and in the other mine we saw the tools and how they would look for gold or quartz. It was also fun watching them make the raspberry drops and we also got to taste some; they were so good! I also bought a big jar of raspberry drops and hid them away from my Dad and sister so they don't take them. On Tuesday it was annoying because it was raining and we couldn't do much in the cold. My favourite part was probably when we got free roam and the light show. -Ned
My favourite activity was candle dipping! The gold pour was amazing! The mine tours were so cool! The aura light show was great! Hazel chugged raspberry drops! Everyone was ding dong ditching! We got to see the Chinese camp! The confectionary demo I loved! I LOVE WHEN WE GOT FREE TIME TO SHOP! -Molly
We played murder in the dark at our cabin with Don, Cambo, Tom, Wally, Noah, Tyson, Nate and me, Harrison. We had heaps of injuries like falling out of beds, falling in the water, getting stepped on. We also went gold panning most of us found gold which is good. I SAW EYES IN OUR CABINS AT NIGHT, BOTH NIGHTS IT WAS CREEPY. Also, we ate so many lollies🐵🐵🐵🐵🐵Then we went candle dipping my candle turned out too brown. Also, Don and Nate’s bed kept falling apart. I had a winning streak because I am G.O.A.T.E.D and the night show was so creepy. -Harrison
We went gold panning at Sovereign Hill and I got 24 pieces of gold. The 3-6's went candle dipping and there were three colours- blue, yellow and pink. I got lost at the panning shop for ten minutes, with some year 6 boy's. At the gold pour, the smelter man, smelted some gold and made a gold bar. At the Aura show there was a door that opened. It was awesome. 😈😈-Eli
In Sovereign Hill we went gold panning found some gold. Then we went into the mines and found the welcome nugget. Then we went to GOLD POUR and saw gold turn into a metal. -Jon
On camp we played murder in the dark and people were crashing into the pole and Tyson tried to jump from bed to bed but he went too short. When we went shopping, we got a whole humongous jar of raspberry drops. The next day we went shopping and Chace, Noah and Nate were going on the horse ride but it only started at one o'clock and we were disappointed and then we went to the Aura show and the last thing was goated. -Nate
My favourite thing was the GOLD POUR. My second favourite thing was the RED HILL MINE TOUR.My third favourite thing was the CANDLE MAKING DIPPING. My fourth favourite thing was the CHINESE CAMP. My least favourite thing was the GOLD PANNING -Archer
Some good things about camp were spending money, buying candles and making candles by putting them in wax. There were 3 colours that I used, for each colour we dipped them in water. The teachers paid for everything and it was probably $10,000. At the lolly shop I bought toffee apples and necklaces. I asked Mr Kemp for $249 but he said no. A bad thing that happened at camp was falling over and hitting my head on the bunk beds. Why did the teachers get no bunks and we got bunks? -Delilah
On sovereign hill camp I enjoyed going into one of the mines because we saw a huge bit of gold stored in a safe, one of the things I will never forget about sovereign hill camp was the light show and the bubbles that went all over the street. - Hudson
On Sovereign hill camp I had a very VERY good time. One of my favorite bits was the light show and walking around the main street with my friends. I got really excited when I found gold when I was gold panning. Another thing I enjoyed was when all of my friends got slide whistles and played them. Something else we did was going to the candle making shop and making some cool candles. We had 2 mine tours and each of them were very exciting and fun. In conclusion, this camp was very fun and enjoyable. -Tom F
Sovereign Hill was a very exciting few days. The activities that I really enjoyed was going inside a real mine site which was really cool and also a bit scary for some people. The best thing that happened to camp was spending time with friends and just laughing the whole night. We also got Lost if I mean We I mean Chace, Hudson, Eli, Josh, and Matthew. - Andrei
At Sovereign Hill camp I enjoyed riding on the coach, sharing a room with every single one of my friends and walking around the main street. When I was at Sovereign hill, I was a little bit uncomfortable having a shower there because there wasn’t much privacy it was a toilet stall with a shower. I loved watching the lady there make the toffee and I loved the aura light show and I liked seeing the kids dressed up in costumes. My least favourite thing was probably the gold panning because I didn’t find any gold, I also didn’t like going down the hills because people kept dragging their feet. - Koko
My favourite thing at camp was gold panning and hanging out with Delilah and I also liked the light show when we went shopping, I bought 2 candles for my mum I liked the red hill mine we went in it was a good experience. -Cody
My favourite thing on sovereign hill camp the thing I most enjoyed was the gold pouring demonstration the gold was worth around five hundred thousand dollars with 24k gold which is the most pure and expensive. -Matthew
At Sovereign hill I enjoyed doing candle dipping and gold panning. I also enjoyed the Aura show. -Alodia
On camp, we did a lot of things. Everything we did was an experience we could take home with us. I really liked the Aura Show, as it explained a lot of the history around gold and the Gold Rush. The gold panning was also very memorable. (I got five flakes of gold!) We got to walk around Sovereign Hill and explore what it has to offer. There were lolly stores, horse riding, candle making, and more. We got to go down into the mines, and see how miners and locals got to live. It was really fun. -Tom
At camp my favourite thing was gold panning and candle making. My least favourite was when it was a rainy day because I slipped over. I loved to see all of the people in dress ups. The food there was surprisingly really good. I also loved when it was winter wonderland and it was raining bubbles. We went down to an old mine and it was very good but we had to go down in the dark. We also got stuck on the way down. On the way up we didn’t get stuck thank god but we were in the dark for one minute. -Isabella
I shared a room with all my friends and we played Grannie in the room at night my favourite thing was the aura show I loved the gun shots and the house on fire I also loved the food my favourite meal of the day was probably the pasta and the bread rolls , we got to see gold get made and if you touch it you will explode. -Lily
I liked how I shared a room with all my friends (BTW we were playing Granny). One thing that I loved was candle making. I loved seeing the people dressed up. I loved the bubbles, one even went on my face. Another thing I enjoyed was the FOOD. It was so GOOD (YUMMY). -Lilymae
One of my favourite things on camp was going down to the gold mine and going down the red hill mine it was so cool on the gold mine presentation we went down on a tram into a big tunnel it was so dark but very cool and my second favourite thing was getting lost with Josh Hudson Matthew Andrei and Eli and that is all the end. -Chace
