Author Visits

Next week we welcome 2 amazing authors to our school. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to hear directly from two of Australia’s most popular children's authors and gain insight into the writing process. Lucinda is visiting SKiPPS on Tuesday 12th August at 11.25am.

Lucinda Gifford is coming to speak with the Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students. Lucinda is known for many books but some of her most well known titles include:

Big Dog, Little Dog, Too Many Dogs, The Wolves of Greycoat Halls Series, Neil the Boring Amazing Sea Cucumber and Chicken Divas.

We are also welcoming Felice Arena, the much-loved author of Specky Magee and the action-packed EPIC series, to our school! Felice is a dynamic storyteller who brings energy, humour, and inspiration to his sessions. He will be sharing his passion for writing and his stories with the students in Years 3/4/5 & 6. Felice has let us know that he is happy to sign any of his books that students may have at home. This event is scheduled for Wednesday August 13 at 11.25am

For the third year, St Kilda Park is entering the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee. The competition is open to all our students in Year 3/4/5 & 6. It is free to enter the online competition which I will run with students on Friday 15th August.

Entrants will be required to answer 30 random spelling words (timed) per round. Students are required to be signed up by a teacher, so please let me know by close of business Friday August 8th if your child/children would like to participate

Here is the link if you would like to read up a little more about the competition. You can also access the online consent form in this link which you will need to complete for your child to participate.

Send me an email on jacqueline.morphy@education.vic.gov.au. Please attach the consent form to your email.

Thank you to those that have already reached out and expressed interest.

Sacred Heart Pen Pals

Last call for letters to our Pen Pals at Sacred Heart Community. I would really like a few more letters to send as I know how much the residents cherish receiving them. Please encourage and support your child/children to pen a short letter and pass it onto me this week.

SKiPPS & Readings

A reminder to all that if you are purchasing any new books, please support our local Readings store. If you mention that you are a part of the St Kilda Park Primary School Community, they will put a % of your spend aside for our school to use.

Last year, we were able to send a class to Readings for an outing where they all selected a new book for their classroom library. The money from your purchases really helped make that an affordable way to put new books in the classrooms, books that the students selected and really want to read. It would be amazing to be able to send another class this year.
