Walk to School Month

We are really excited to be involved in Walk to School Month 2023!

Walk to School Month is a Victorian initiative to get children and their families active on the way to school to lift their mood, self esteem and improve learning outcomes.

Why Walk to School?

To get kids in the habit of walking to school young to help them feel great now, and lead healthy, active lives into the future.

That’s what VicHealth’s Walk to School initiative is all about. This includes working with schools and local councils to make it easy, safe and accessible.

Why Walk to School?

Being active every day is great for kids. Why? It helps:

  • Mental wellbeing
  • Mood and self-esteem
  • Confidence and life skills
  • Connection with family, friends and neighbours

Moving commutes from the roads to the footpath also helps:

  • Make school streets safer
  • Reduce traffic congestion
  • Contribute to a healthier environment

Each day we will be asking children how they got to school. We will collate this data to understand which class are our walking champions.

The top three classes will win a session on the smoothie bike and make their own smoothies at the end of the month.

The student who records the most active travel (Including the distances travelled from home to school) will win a $20 rebel sport voucher!

Part way is okay, drive the car part way and walk the rest. if you live very close to school clock up some km by walking around the oval before or after school.

Teachers will record active travellers on a class list each day this month. Get walking!
