Principal Update

Thursday 30 November

Dear Families,

2024 Parent payment contributions

Please see the news feed with details for our parent payment for 2024 that will have all the details, due dates and arrangements for books.

Schools provide students with free instruction to fulfil the standard Victorian curriculum and we want to assure you that all contributions are voluntary.

Nevertheless, the ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and support for our students. Thank you for all your support, whether that’s through Voluntary Contributions, fundraising or volunteering your time. This makes a huge difference to our school and the programs we can offer.  Essentially, it is your contributions that make Menzies Creek Primary School so special! Collectively your contributions allow us to provide opportunities and support above and beyond the traditional educational experience.

Save the date – next Friday 8 December – 4pm – 7pm

Friday week we will celebrating 2023 with some Christmas Carols (6pm – 7pm), professional Santa photos, games and fun activities for everyone as we celebrate the school year for 2024.  Students, staff and families all invited so spread the word and save the date.  See the flyer in the newsletter for more details.

Camping program

Last week the Year 5/6 cohort had a wonderful experience down at Phillip Island for their 3-day camp.  Staff and students made the most of the weather (glad it wasn’t this week) and challenged themselves in a supportive environment.  We were very impressed with how well they were able to manage themselves.

Tomorrow our Year 1/2 cohort are having a big day out!  They are going to Funfields before returning to school for dinner. Then the Year 1s will go home and the Year 2s will sleepover at school.  This is a great introduction for what they can look forward to in the coming years.

Camps are a great opportunity and it is nice to see the enjoyment on faces when they accomplish something.  Again, I would like to acknowledge the staff for their efforts in organising these opportunities.

2024 staffing update

As is common most years we will have some staff leaving and some staff changing roles next year.  With only a few weeks left of the school year we need to acknowledge some staff who won’t be with us to give you the chance to send your well wishes.

Rianne Comport will be commencing a fixed term 12-month teaching position at Chirnside Park PS next year.  Riaane has been a fixture of MCPS for many many years and has been an incredible teacher, colleague and support for our community. I’d personally like to acknowledge her support and assistance and thank her for what she has done for our school.

Erin Carter will be commencing a new teaching position at Beaconsfield PS next year. Erin has been with us for 18 months and has had a great impact on her students who adore her. Her drive, passion and commitment to our students will be missed.  We wish her well.

Scott Kircher will be commencing a new role teaching in Vanuatu.  This is not the first time Scott has left MCPS to teach overseas and is a wonderful opportunity for him to further his career and add to his previous teaching experiences in the Northern Territory and Japan.  With favourable time zones we might be able to forge a connection going forward which is exciting.  We wish him all the best in this exciting adventure and experience.

Shelley Hughes will be taking some well-deserved long service leave for the first two terms next year.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for Shelley and we hope she enjoys life without being governed by bells for a little while and looks forward to being a grandmother.

Ashlea Thompson will be hanging up the paint brush as we will have Kate Watkins returning to take Visual Arts.  Ashlea will not be a stranger and we will see her as a CRT next year.  Ashlea has provided our students with wonderful creative opportunities for our students which we are grateful for.

Assembly

We will have assemblies on the following Fridays at 2:45 this term:

  • December 15

Take care,

Dale
