YEAR 9 CITY EXPERIENCE
During weeks 1 or 2 of this term the Year 9 students travelled into the city for 4 days with their teachers and got to experience many of the offerings and history that the city of Melbourne has to offer. They visited the Shrine of Remembrance, Eureka Tower, Melbourne Museum, Queen Victoria Market, The MCG, Blender Art Studios, Salvation Army and ACMI. Our students made us proud, reflecting the school values of respect, resilience and responsibility, making it an enjoyable venture for all involved. Below are some accounts of this by our junior school captains.
Recently, the Year 9’s went on our City Experience, and it was such a fun and exciting week. Throughout the week, we visited a variety of incredible places, each one teaching us something new about the city’s history, culture, and its famous sights.
We toured places like the Melbourne Museum, the MCG, Queen Victoria Market, ACMI, and we even went up the Eureka Skydeck to see the city from above. At Blender Studios, we got to see some incredible street art, as well as make our own, and our trip to the Shrine of Remembrance was a powerful reminder of Australia’s history.
Every day we had to catch trains, trams, and walk to different places, which was a bit difficult at first, but by the end of the week we were much more confident getting around, with the support of our teachers.
Overall, the Year 9 City Experience was a great week where we had lots of fun with our friends, explored the city, and made memories we will never forget.

During the second week, 9E went on our City Experience. On Tuesday we visited ACMI and explored the evolution of the moving image through fun exhibitions. After lunch, the Salvation Army guided us around Melbourne and spoke about issues surrounding homelessness in Australia. On Wednesday we toured the State Library, saw The Dome from the top level, viewed a museum about the history of books, and even saw Ned Kelly’s armour. Later, at Blender Studios, we learnt spray-paint techniques, created our own stencils, and made unique artworks. On Thursday, bus replacements meant we had to navigate a new transport route to reach Flinders Street Station. We then visited the Eureka Skydeck for an incredible city view and the Shrine of Remembrance to learn its history. On Friday, our final day, we toured the MCG and the Australian Sports Museum, playing fun sports mini games before finishing at Melbourne Museum to explore exhibits on the CBD’s history, the ocean, and dinosaurs. This week helped me feel more confident navigating the city and public transport.

ANTI RACISM PRESENTATION
In late October all year 8 students participated in the anti-racism/ anti bullying workshops presented by Eric Agyeman, with the focus on the notion of ‘I belong’. During this one-hour presentation, students got to participate in workshops on being an ‘upstander’ rather than a ‘bystander’ to bullying and racism. Thanks to the wellbeing team for organising.
YEAR 7 AND 8 CAREERS EDUCATION
Year 7 and 8 students have been undertaking career education activities in their home group sessions this term. This allows students to become familiar with their strengths, interests and personality type to enable them to start thinking about the array of career options they may wish to consider in the future. Thanks to the careers staff, Mrs. Pisano and Ms. Pham for putting this program for our students.
