Round the classes

Reception: Katie
The Receptions have been busy working on learning our final digraphs. We have also been working on our oral storytelling and learning ways to translate this into our writing. In maths, we have been learning about our teen numbers. We have been learning how to write and partition these numbers as well as represent them in a number of different ways. We have also been busy preparing for the end-of-year Christmas concert and have been learning about different landmarks in HASS. We are getting very excited about meeting our new transition friends in the next couple of weeks.
Reception/ Year 1: Jaya
It’s hard to believe we’re only five weeks away from the end of the school year! The Reception and Year 1 students have been enjoying exploring STEM this term, perfectly connecting with our whole-school focus on being Innovative. Last week, we experienced a hands-on boat-building challenge. We began by learning about floating and sinking and exploring different materials to think about what helps objects stay afloat. Using this knowledge, students designed and built their own boats using simple materials; paper, foil, sticky tape and scissors. Once completed, they tested their creations to see if they would float or sink! This challenge encouraged creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving while helping students understand scientific ideas like mass, shape, and buoyancy. The Reception and Year 1 students showed great persistence and teamwork, and they were very proud of their amazing results!
Year 1/2: Kelly
Over the past two weeks, our Year 1/2 class has been diving into the world of fractions! We have explored what a fraction is and how we use fractions in our daily lives. Fruit has provided a delicious hands-on way to learn—children enjoyed sharing fruit to make fruit salad as part of our fraction learning, turning maths into a tasty experience!
Our students have been challenged with dividing objects into halves, thirds, quarters, fifths, and eighths. One of the trickiest activities was figuring out how to split an A4 piece of paper into equal thirds and fifths—this really got us thinking! Along the way, we’ve discussed where else we might use fractions, such as sharing food evenly, reading the clock, and in different types of measurement.
This unit has encouraged deeper thinking and problem-solving. Many children have spent time in the “learning pit”—a place where we might feel stuck or challenged as we learn something new. This has led to fantastic conversations about perseverance, asking for help, and what to do when faced with tricky problems. Some children have celebrated “eureka” moments, while others are still finding their way out of the pit, showing great persistence and resilience.
I am so proud of everyone’s effort and teamwork in approaching new and sometimes difficult concepts. Ask your child to show you what they've learned about fractions at home—you might even end up with a fruit salad!
Year 2/3: Emma
What an action-packed fortnight we’ve had! Our students showed incredible bravery, resilience, and creativity during their camp to Mylor. It was a truly memorable experience that strengthened connections among peers and introduced exciting new challenges that many had never encountered before.
Back in the classroom, we’ve been diving into our maths rotation groups. Students have demonstrated growing learner agency by choosing the phase of learning that best suits their needs—whether it’s understanding, fluency, or problem-solving. Each phase offers the right level of challenge, and it’s been wonderful to see students thoughtfully placing themselves in groups that support their growth.
To top it all off, it was fantastic to see so many students at the Uraidla Show! We sang beautifully on stage and showcased some fabulous Picasso-inspired art pieces. It was heartwarming to see our students contribute and represent our school community with such pride.
Year 3/4: Stephen
We went through the valuable process of getting lots of practice in with our two songs for the Uraidla Show. We appreciated that whilst we were super familiar with the songs, we were in fact performing them for an audience that had not heard us perform. We completed one of the final tasks for our HASS learning - 3-d biomes that showcase our understanding of biotic and abiotic elements of ecosystems. For maths, we’ve focused on addition with trading.
Year 4/5: Rachael
A highlight of the term so far was our camp at Mylor, where students enjoyed a few fun-filled days of adventure, challenge, and teamwork. From tackling the challenge course and team-building activities to the flying fox and giant swing, everyone showed great determination, cooperation, and courage. It was also a wonderful opportunity for students to strengthen friendships and make lasting memories.
Back in the classroom, students have been working hard to develop their division skills. We’ve seen fantastic progress in their understanding and confidence, as they apply a range of strategies to solve more complex problems.
Another standout moment recently was our class school play. All the students’ effort and enthusiasm shone through—whether they were performing on stage, helping with props, or supporting behind the scenes. Their dedication truly paid off, and it was wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork come to life!
Year 5/6: Sallie
Welcome to the unbelievably busy term 4. If you haven't already, please read the seesaw message I sent about all the important dates coming up (soooo many!). The year 5s came back from camp excited and full of fun stories. While they were away, the Year 6s enjoyed reading stories to the younger students at a Teddy Bears' Picnic and a visit from the CFS. We have been working on creating our own imaginary world behind cupboard doors (just like in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe), then writing a descriptive piece of writing to match our drawings. We also completed our artwork for the Uraidla Show (they looked great on the wall in the gym). We enjoyed showing off our birds at the parent expo and some of the creative designs were also displayed at the Show. We have started a new maths topic - Angles/Geometry and completing our maths mentals daily is our constant! We are starting our New Makers Empire design thinking challenge....it is called Naturally Brave and students need to design something that might help a family who has been impacted by a natural disaster. What a great way to showcase students' innovative design thinking ideas.
Congratulations to Ruby Cox who will be travelling to Canberra to represent our state in high jump. Amazing Ruby!!!
Congratulations to Ruby and Layla who have made the district tennis team.
Please read the district football team write up by Ruby and Eloise – who came first in their division. Well done!!
2025 SAPSASA Football – Eloise and Ruby
We had to do three trials after the team got announced and we did some training before the carnival. During the first day on Monday, we won all three games with our last game against Mid North being the most challenging. The first and last game of the second day didn’t challenge us very much, but the middle game against Tea Tree Gully was our first and only loss of the carnival. On the third and final day, Wednesday, we won all our games once again, but the final game of the carnival was the most exciting. We were hoping Mid North would win against Tea Tree Gully, making it a tree way tie for first place between us and them. Ruby kicked 1 goal and a point, and Eloise kicked 14 goals.
