School News

A Message from Cheryl

Hi amazing Uraidla Primary School community.

Our school is again collecting donations of food items and gifts for the Vinnies Christmas Appeal this year.

There will be a donation box in The Foyer, as well as some posters with ideas of:

  • Suitable food items
  • Christmas Gift suggestions for specific age groups (Vinnie's have asked if gifts could remain unwrapped, please)

Please ensure all donations are made by Thursday 5th December 2025

Thank you for your generosity in the past years and as Vinnies say "Thankyou for partnering with us to change lives"

Garden thank you

We are all enjoying watching the beautiful Reconciliation Garden come to life. We'd like to acknowledge this project is supported by Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu’s Grassroots Grants Program and is funded by the landscape levy. The $4000 we received has made the construction of the garden and purchase of over 100 indigenous plants possible. Thank you so much!

Bushfire preparations

As we enter bushfire danger season, we encourage all families to prepare their own bushfire survival plan, and to discuss this with their children. We are a category R3 site (low to medium risk), but we are likely to be directed to close on 'catastrophic' days due to our proximity to R2 sites and the complications of transportation in case of fire in an adjacent community.  Please refer to the Bushfire and your child's school or preschool

link from the Department for Education for more information.

Tuck Shop

We've noticed that some children are coming to tuck shops with very large notes, and they can have difficulty managing this (for example buying more food than they need, feeling pressured to buy treats for others, and even leaving large tips for the parent helpers!) We ask parents to please try to provide coins or at the most a $5 note for tuck shop. If you find yourself with only a larger note, please hand this in to the class teacher to manage on your child's behalf. Thank you!

Sun Smart Policy

The Governing Council has ratified the SunSmart policy at the last meeting in Week 3, and we have now been awarded Cancer Council approval for the next 3 years. As we come into the warmer months, it's worth noting that it is the family's responsibility to ensure children apply sunscreen before coming to school, and to send a bottle of sunscreen with their child to reapply before outside breaks. We also ask that you teach children to apply their own sunscreen; most kids can manage this well with a bit of practice! Classrooms will have top-up sunscreen if needed. Thank you for keeping students 'sun smart'!

Uraidla Primary Facebook Group

If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a Facebook group for UPS families and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.

It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council and admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.

Chess

 Did you know that each Thursday during the second lunch playtime there is a Chess Club? Chess is a great game and brings many benefits to children, including

* critical thinking

* concentration

* challenge

* enjoyment

* decision making skills

New players are welcome each week, meeting in Stephen’s class♟️

Enrolment in Reception

If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school.  Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.

Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.

If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)

With enrolments for start of 2026 already overdue. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!

If you are still unsure or interested in booking a school tour, please contact the office on 8390 3209 and book into the tour on 10am Wednesday 12th November.
