Shining at the Uraidla Show

Congratulations to all our students who performed at the Uraidla Show on Sunday! Taking to the stage on the big truck is always one of the highlights of our year, and I felt incredibly proud as our students sang and played with such enthusiasm and skill, earning cheers and applause from the audience. Despite the rain and overcast skies, our students’ smiles and music brightened the day.

A special 'well done' also goes to all students who submitted artworks and innovative creations for the competitive sections of the Show. We celebrated many ribbon winners, but, most importantly, I believe that everyone who participated is a winner for having the courage and initiative to take part. That’s what matters most! It was heart-warming to see so many of our students' names featured in every youth category.

It was gratifying to hear of the brave efforts of the Year 6s who volunteered to clean up after the Show the next morning in the rain. 💪

Thank you to everyone involved for making the Uraidla Show such a memorable event for our school community.

Governing Council AGM

On Monday, December 1, at 7 pm, we will be holding our Governing Council Annual General Meeting, where we elect members and office holders for 2026. The Governing Council is a supportive group that advises the school on matters of governance, such as finances and policy. We meet twice a school term at 7pm on a Monday. If you are interested in joining our Governing Council, please email me at margie.sarre187@schools.sa.edu.au to let me know before the night so we can be ready to welcome you!  We are especially keen to welcome new members with finance or business experience; however, all interested community members are encouraged to express their interest.

Planning for 2026: Class Placement Process

As we look ahead to the 2026 school year, planning is already well underway. A significant part of this process is determining the most suitable class placement for each student, with the aim of providing the best possible learning and social environment. Our anticipated class structure next year is: Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 2/3, Year 3/4, Year 4/5, and Year 5/6. Additionally, we will welcome a new class of Receptions starting in Term 3, bringing our total to eight classes. We are hopeful that a new building will be available before the end of 2026, as enrolment numbers continue to grow for 2027.

How the Process Works

Next week, students in Years 1–4 will be invited to list five friends they would like to be placed with in their class next year. We aim to ensure that every student is with at least one of their nominated friends.

Class placement, however, involves much more than just friendships. The staff and leadership team carefully consider a wide range of factors, including:

  • Social and emotional development
  • Peer relationships and classroom dynamics
  • Staff relationships and the number of years with each teacher
  • Academic achievement and learning needs
  • The overall balance of each class

We are committed to looking at the whole child to ensure their well-being and academic progress. Students in composite classes benefit from differentiated learning opportunities which offer support and challenge for all students, regardless of whether they are in the lower or higher year level within that class.

Decision-Making and Communication

Teachers and leaders work collaboratively to determine the best placement for each child. As a small school, we know your children well and are dedicated to making thoughtful and informed decisions.

If there are particular circumstances regarding your child’s placement that you would like us to consider, please contact me via email at margie.sarre187@schools.sa.edu.au using the subject ‘Class Placement 2026’ by Friday, November 14.

Please note that we are unable to accept specific requests for particular teachers. Fortunately, we are proud that all our teachers are excellent!

While we value your input and aim to take your perspectives into account, please respect that final decisions regarding class placements rest with the Principal and school staff. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to ensure the very best outcomes for all students.😊

Farewell Jess

We'd like to take this opportunity to farewell Jess Rogers, who has done a wonderful job teaching Science 3 days a week and Year 3/4 on Fridays this year. Jess is leaving us at the end of next week to take up another exciting work opportunity elsewhere, but we hope she will be back doing TRT work with us next year! Jess has provided many exciting Science experiences for students this year, and we'd all like to thank her for her enthusiasm and strong focus on wellbeing and engagement for all students.

From the beginning of week 6, Stephen's class will have Andrew on Fridays and Science for all classes will be taught by Philippa Callaghan for the rest of this year.

Uraidla Primary Champions!

We'd like to congratulate Eloise Sachse and Ruby Cox who are gold medal winners in Div 2 in football (three-way tie with Tea Tree Gully & Mid North). 🥇 See Round the Classes section for details.

I wish you all a brilliant fortnight until our next newsletter! The term is already flying by!
