ISS FINALS

We look forward to hearing how our students fared in our next Newsletter.

SSV Basketball Finals

Late last term, our Year Six Girls competed in the Finals for Netball at Jells Park. Whilst they gave it their best on the day, there were some other teams who played very well too. The girls have done an amazing job in  being successful in getting that far in the SSV and Netball Victoria competitions. We are incredibly proud of them all and grateful to Sean Martin for coaching them!

Division Basketball

Having finished Term 3 as the Heidelberg District Girls Basketball Champions, our Senior Girls Basketball Team competed in the Banyule Division Round Robin on Monday 13th October. The girls won comfortably against Watsonia North Primary School but could not get over the line against a very talented St John’s team losing 26 to 34 in an enthralling contest. Many thanks to Kate Sanford for coaching the girls throughout this campaign and to the many parents that assisted with transport on the day. Congratulations to;

Special Student Achievements

Hannah D (Y4) shared insights of her most recent sporting achievement.

On Sunday 5th October, I competed in the National Taekwondo Championships in Adelaide. I have been doing Taekwondo for two years now and have competed in a lot of competitions and have won gold and silver medals. I always train really hard. Three and a half months before Nationals, I competed in the State Taekwondo Championships. I versed the State Champion and lost by 21 points and that got me a silver medal. I still got to go to the Nationals because of my placement. After State, I had to train extra hard. Each Sunday I did a training session with the Victorian Team and I trained double classes on Thursday and Friday nights.

At Nationals, I was about to get disqualified because they called my name twice and if you are not there by a certain time then you are disqualified. I was 10 seconds off. First I sparred a red belt. At Round One, I lost by a point. At Round Two, I was down by five points. With five seconds to go, I scored 6 points and won the round. In Round Three, I won by 3 points. After that I had ten minutes to rest before I versed the State Champion. In Round One, I lost by 2 points. In Round Two, I won by 1 point. In Round Three, I was tied for the entire minute then with 0.12 of a second remaining, I scored 2 points and won the gold!

Incredibly, Liam W (Y4) also competed at the National Taekwondo Championship in a sparring match and was awarded a silver medal. Congratulations Liam!

Being selected in the Victorian State Team in any sport is a phenomenal achievement and is a great reward for the dedication to their chosen sports. We wish them both every success in November and can’t wait to hear about their experiences.
