Greetings from Shaun

Student Free Day

A quick reminder that next week Monday the 3rd of November 2025, we have a student-free day scheduled. Staff will be using the day to collate assessments and begin report writing in preparation for the end of term. With Tuesday being a public holiday, we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Wednesday morning.

OSHClub will be open on Monday for families who need care, and bookings can be made directly with them.

Road Safety- Helen St + Hawthorne Rd Intersection

We’re asking families to help us keep students safe around the Helen Street and Hawthorne Road intersection. If you’re heading up Hawthorn Road on the north side (opposite the school), please cross Helen Street directly to enter the block. If you’re on the school side of Hawthorne Road, turn right onto Helen Street and use the crossing. Likewise, if you’re leaving the block, cross onto Helen Street first, then use the crossing.

Please remind children not to cross diagonally across the intersection, whether walking, riding, or scooting. Unfortunately, some drivers are not following street signs, so it’s important we all do our part to keep our students safe.

Adults, we are asking that you support us in making crossing the roads around Northcote PS safer.

1/2 Mt Evelyn Camp

A huge well done to our Year 1/2 campers last week, who showed true resilience while braving the wilds of Mt Evelyn! Everyone had an amazing time exploring, learning, and making memories together.

A big shout-out to the Year 1/2 teachers for organising such a fun and adventurous camp, and to the parents who generously gave their time and support to make the experience even more special.

Library Stocktake

We’ll be undertaking a full stocktake of our library collection soon, including the classroom library books.

To support this, next week (Week 5) will be the final week for students to borrow new books. Books can still be kept for the usual two weeks, but after that, we’ll need all library books returned to school.

We’ll send out reminders for any books that are still showing as borrowed. Please help us by having a look at home, in the car, or even at grandparents’ houses for any that might have gone missing. We’ll also be checking the shelves and classrooms to track down any that have been misplaced at school.

If books are lost, we ask families to contribute $20 per missing book so we can replace them or purchase something new for the collection. If you’re experiencing financial difficulty, please get in touch, we can always work something out.

Here is an exert from Jack's inspiring speech

"The power of one. When you hear it, what do you think? You might think about being able to jump the highest, run the furthest or lift the heaviest. But no. It is not about any of that nonsense. It means change. Progress.  And catastrophe. All these options can be achieved by one singular person. 1 out of 8,244,349,433. You will find out exactly how much one person can do for the best, or worst…"

"The Nits" are Recruiting

The Northcote PS parent band, The Nits, are on the lookout for new talent! The  Parent Band is forming a brand-new lineup for 2026, and they’re inviting musical parents to get involved.

If you sing (lead or backing) or play an instrument — drums, guitar, bass, keys, brass, or anything with strings, keys, or rhythm — they’d love to hear from you. All skill levels are welcome; this is about fun, not perfection.

Most of the current band members are moving on, so it’s the perfect time to jump in as they rebuild from (almost) scratch. Whether you’re feeling a bit rusty or ready to rock, come along and jam with them.

If you’re interested, email michaeleva@gmail.com. Let’s make some noise!

Don't forget- Hats are back!

Hats are back this term, so please make sure your child brings theirs each day. Don’t forget to label it clearly with their name so it can be returned if misplaced.

You can purchase the Northcote bucket hat online and select the delivery location as the school, which makes it super convenient
