Year 3

Grade 3 students have settled into Term 2 nicely and have started to engage in new and exciting learning units.

Students have been emerged into our Blue Marble humanities unit as they start to discover the differences of living and non – living things and spark questions and conversations about what it means to be sustainable.

In science students have begun to explore how day turns into night and have made predictions on how this happens by creating annotated drawings to show their thinking. Throughout the unit students will have opportunities to modify their drawings based on their new knowledge.

Grade 3’s have completed their addition and subtraction post assessments for their teachers to see all of their new learning and understanding. At the beginning of the term students revised over what they had learnt in term 1 and continued to practice solving addition and subtraction equations using a variety of strategies. Students are now moving on to learn about multiplication and division strategies.

We all look forward to a fun term ahead!

Jude – 3C: So far I have enjoyed reading because my teacher has been testing my reading and I like to get feedback on my reading. I have also enjoyed maths because it’s giving me a challenge.

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

Year 4

The year 4’s have had a fantastic start to Term 2. Refocusing on our classroom expectations and jumping right into our learning. The students have been extremely busy!

Throughout reading and writing, the students are looking at information texts and the features they are made up of. For example, titles, sub headings, pictures, diagram, labels and maps. The students have chosen an animal to focus on throughout writing and have begun researching to write their own information text.

In maths we have been focusing on addition and subtraction and the different strategies that help us solve different equations. We have also had fun exploring different ways of measuring things, such as everyday objects around the classroom.

In humanities have started our new topic of ‘The Blue Marble’. So far we have immersed ourselves in learning about new words that we might come across in the unit. The students enjoyed going out into the yard and taking photos of different objects to put them into the categories of living, non-living and once living.

All in all, it has been a wonderful beginning to Term 2 and we look forward to see what the rest of the term has in store for us! 😊

Year 5

The Grade 5 students have settled back into term two seamlessly. Students have been excited to share their holiday stories with their peers.

This term in Mathematics, students will be focusing on multiplication and division along with length, perimeter, area, and time. Students have started the term by revisiting different strategies to solve multiplication problems. These strategies include repeated addition, split strategy, area model and vertical algorithm. Students have also been clarifying the difference between a factor and a multiple. To start term two, students in Grade 5 are looking at informative texts in literacy. Students have begun learning how to set up their informative text using the TEEL structure. In Science this term, student will be looking at key features of our solar system including the Earth, moon, and the planets. The students are already excited for our Science incursion occurring in week 4.

Kind regards,

Year 6

What a fantastic start to the term in Year 6!

In Reading, we are learning how to find different important information in texts by skimming, scanning and note taking. We are using a variety of historically realistic narratives and non-fiction texts such as Alfred’s War by Rachel Bin Salleh and Dry to Dry by Pamela Freeman.

In Writing, we are learning how to create information reports about a variety of topics such as particular animals, sports, and landmarks. We are investigating the purpose and effective use of different text features.

In Maths, we are focussing on multiplication and division. We are learning to use and make connections between different strategies such as the area model and long multiplication.

                         Area model for 24x15

                               Long multiplication

We are looking forward to InterSchool Sports against other schools over the next couple of weeks.

Good luck to all those participating in Australian Rules Football, Hockey, Netball, Soccer, and Tee ball.
