P-6 Art

with Brodie Ralli and Cynthia Jose

Term two has started and students have been busy in the art room. Here is a snapshot of some of the things that we’ve been up to.

In grade Prep, students created a portrait of someone with crazy hair by experimenting with different types of lines such as curly, straight and wavy.

In grade one, students created a texture mural by changing the feel of a piece of paper. Students experimented with paper to discover how to cut, fold and roll it to change the texture from smooth to rough.

Here is a selection of some grade one work samples.

In grade 2 students have been learning vocabulary linked with textiles and embroidery. All students created a picture dictionary of terms in their art journal. Students practised threading a needle with wool, tying knots and have learnt how to do running stitch.

Somiya and Hazel from 2C created a dictionary of terms related to the topic of embroidery and textiles.

In grade 4 we have used the See, Think, Wonder thinking strategy when looking at the work of Doodle Boy and Mr Doodle.

We had a go at the art of doodling by drawing whatever came to mind and used a similar style to the artists explored. As a way to celebrate Education week from Monday 13th May to Friday 17th May we will use the theme, Spotlight on STEM to inspire more doodle drawings and showcase our work at CS Square. Do you know what STEM stands for? STEM means science, technology, engineering and maths.

In grade 6, we explored the painting Castle and Sun, an abstract cityscape by the artist Paul Klee and used geometric shapes to create our own.

A display is currently viewable at the front office showcasing a range of student work.
