PREP

The preps have returned back from their holidays ready to learn. They are so settled and have shown so much growth already.

This term in humanities, they are learning about a sustainable environment. Students have been asked to bring in recyclable materials to use for crafts in the classroom. They have also identified many ways they can help our world, such as not stepping on plants, looking after nature and putting rubbish in the bin.

The preps were lucky enough to have Daniel, George’s dad come and speak to us about being a soldier. The students had plenty of questions and were able to relate this to what they had learnt about Anzac Day and why it is a special day to us.

We are looking forward to all the new learning and experiences during Term 2.

Year 1

The Year 1 students have had a great start to the term. They have settled back into their classrooms and are ready for a term of learning.

In our reading and writing units we are learning about information reports. We are looking have been looking at the different features of information reports including a contents page, diagrams and headings. We have all chosen an animal to write our own information reports.

During math, we have been looking at patterns and how to continue and create our own patterns.

We are also looking at length and finding the best way to measure the length of objects.

In Humanities we are learning about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle things to help our environment.

We are very excited for all the things to come this term.

Year 2

We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we begin the new term, we wanted to take a moment to update you on some of the exciting things happening in our classroom.

Over the past few weeks, we have been delving into the world of measurement. From understanding the basics to exploring more informal methods, we have been learning how to measure and compare various objects. We have been actively engaged in hands-on activities that not only reinforce the concept but also make learning fun and memorable.

We've also been exploring the concept of patterns and how they can help us understand numbers better. Your children have been learning to continue patterns through skip counting, using tools such as the 100s char, counters, and their fingers to identify and predict patterns. They have also been discovering the rules within skip counting sequences, enhancing their understanding of number relationships.

Reading is a fundamental skill, and we've been working hard to enhance your child's reading abilities. We've been focusing on different techniques and skills to improve comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary within non-fiction texts. Your children are learning to use prior knowledge to support newly learned information, allowing them to see how their thinking has changed over time. They've been analysing texts, paraphrasing, and delving deep into topics such as space, sharks, and biographies.

In our writing sessions, we've been immersing ourselves in the world of non-fiction texts and information reports. Your children have been learning about the various features that make up these types of texts, such as headings, subheadings, table of contents, real facts, photographs, diagrams, and interesting information. Our current focus has been on animals, delving into their habitats, diets, and appearances. Your child has been researching and writing about different animals, learning to present information in a clear and organised manner allowing them to create informative and engaging reports.

We're incredibly proud of the progress your children have made so far, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow and thrive in the coming weeks. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support,
