Preparing students for success

Staff and students are back into learning this week. I have visited each classroom and observed a calm environment full of engaged participants. Please help us to give your child the best chance for success by ensuring they come to school after a good night’s sleep, with a healthy lunch and on time for the start of the school day.

Extra Classroom Support

This term at Plenty Parklands we are expecting close to twenty Pre-Service teachers from local Universities, who will come into our school to complete their teaching rounds.  With the current shortage of teachers in Victorian Education, this is an important initiative that we support to help find teachers for the future.  It is highly likely that your child will have an extra adult in their classroom at some stage this term.  Supporting this initiative is another way that we can provide our students with the extra help they need to be successful in their learning.

Update on 2025 Enrolments

With Term 2 beginning, we have now officially opened enrolments for Prep in 2025.  School tours with the principal are filling up quickly and we already have close to 30 enrolments for next year.  If you have a child at home who you are planning on sending to Plenty Parklands next year, please come and speak to the office ladies as soon as possible to ensure that you don’t miss out on a place.  At this stage we plan to run five Prep classes next year.

Office Renovations

Our office staff were very excited to return back this term to a newly renovated office space.  Please feel free to visit next time you are at the school and see our freshly painted, newly carpeted and furnished area.  Completion of this project concludes the works to the administration building.  All building works from our $5.6M grant have now been completed, and we now move on to enhancing our student playgrounds in the near future.

School Council Elections

At our last School Council meeting we elected committee members to a number of important roles.  Dean Rowley is our new School Council President for 2024, Rebecca Gleghorn takes on the role of Vice President, Robert Malivindi is our new Treasurer and Amanda McAuliffe takes on the role of Secretary.  As Principal of the school, I look forward to working closely with these parents to make sure we maximise the teaching and learning opportunities for the staff and students in our school.

Upcoming Curriculum Day

Just a reminder that next Thursday 25th April is a public holiday (Anzac Day) and Friday 26th April is a Curriculum Day (student free day).  On this day our staff will be undertaking a number of Numeracy professional development activities.  Our specialist staff will be visiting other schools to compare teaching programs.  For parents requiring support looking after their children, TheirCare will be open on the Friday.

Assembly

We are eagerly anticipating our first assembly for Term 2.  All parents are welcome at 9:15am in the school gymnasium on Monday 22nd April to join us for our fortnightly celebration of student achievement.
