Borinya Sensory Room
Located within the 7 - 10 Learning Centre students can access the sensory room to assist them to feel their best during the day and help them be in the very best place to learn. Not all schools are lucky enough to have a sensory room or space however many schools are now recognising the important role these spaces have to play in contributing to wellbeing and regulation.
WHAT is a sensory room? A room or space is created to support students' sensory needs and regulation, this includes, helping kids calm down when stressed or overwhelmed or assisting in regulating their bodies.
WHO can use the sensory room? The sensory room is for every single student at Borinya to use.
WHY would students use the sensory room? The benefits of a sensory room include improved concentration, focus, communication and self-regulation. People experience a reduction in stress, anxiety, cognitive fatigue and disruptive behaviours.
WHEN do students use the sensory room? The sensory room can be accessed at any time during the school day. Students use the room individually for up to 10 minutes at a time. There is no limit to the number of visits a student can have to the sensory room in any day.
