RESOURCE LIBRARY NEWS

Welcome to the College Resource Library!

WELCOME TERM 2

Welcome back to an exhilarating Term 2 at our College Resource Library! As the heart of our learning community, we’re excited to reopen our doors to the staff, parents, and students for another great term. We are pleased to kick off many library programs again with lunch time activities and clubs, Library Monitors, and many other events including Education Week and Simultaneous Storytime.

Together, let's embark on this journey of exploration and enlightenment. Our doors are open and our shelves are stocked. Here's to a term full of adventures and achievements in the world of books and beyond! Welcome back, everyone!

2024 PROGRAMS

The Library at Lunchtime

The College Resource Library will be open again at lunchtime on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this term. Featuring Chess Club on Mondays, Creators Club on Wednesdays, and ‘Silent Library Fridays.’ We have had such a great response with student engagement during Term 1, and we can't wait for what is in store for Term 2!

Resource Library Monitors

Throughout Term 1, the College Resource Library introduced the Library Monitor Program. This program was a fantastic edition to the library programs and events, whereby it showcased student responsibility and efforts of community among cohorts in the library. We are very excited to be welcoming some new students into the position this term!

We would like to announce our Term 2 Library Monitors.

Eliza Thomson, Macy O’Dwyer and Layne Warde.

The new Term 2 library monitors will be starting their trial period in the library over the next few weeks.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

The latest issue of the Scholastic Book Club is out now! If you are wishing to put in an order, please return issue 3 by Friday 3 May.

Catalogues are provided to classroom teachers (P-6), the College Library, Dungula Main Office, and the Fisher building.

EPLATFORM & DECODABLE READERS

The College Resource Library maintains the ebook platform called ePlatform, which encompasses a wide range of ebooks and audiobooks for staff and students. We now have a new section of Decodable Readers within this platform.

Decodable Readers Australia are a series of learn to read books, designed to match a child's developing knowledge of phonics. Our online library or apps ensure your child can continue to learn to read from home. With multiple functions, allowing children to read independently, to be read to, and the ability to tap words to hear each sound. This is a welcome addition to the College ePlatfrom, providing additional and alternative literacy needs to students and parents.

You can find the ‘Decodables’ section along the top of the page once you have logged in using the school log in information. Visit our ePlatform here: https://kyabramp-12.eplatform.co/

ANZAC DAY IN THE LIBRARY

For ANZAC Day this week, we invited the entire school community to join us in the College Resource Library to honour and remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

Our Library hosted a display featuring books, stories, and memorabilia that reflect the spirit of ANZAC Day. This was an opportunity for our students to learn about the historical importance and enduring legacy of the ANZACs through literature and personal narratives. We encourage staff and parents to share their own stories or family histories related to the ANZACs, as personal connections bring history to life and foster a deeper understanding among our young learners.

Many thanks,

The Library Team: Jen, Karen, Meg.
