College Chaplain Liz Spicer

Youth Parliament and Medal of the Order Awardee.

Youth Parliament

On Thursday 18 April, at the Kyabram Fauna Park, the Youth Parliament was held.

Our Year 12 students attending were Huon, Angus, Hayley and Alisa.

Many parliamentarians attended from all sides. Our local member Peter Walsh, Leader of The Nationals, also spoke inviting the students to contact him with any issues as the students requested more contact with MPs. This was a great opportunity for students to have their voice heard and engage in local issues with MPs.

Message from Angus: It was a very great experience to understand the different types of parliament and government. It was good to get our student and community voice heard. Thanks to our College Chaplain, Liz Spicer for organising today’s event.

Medal of the Order of Australia - presented to our College Chaplain, Liz Spicer.

On Friday 19 April at Government House in Melbourne, our College Chaplain, Liz Spicer, was presented with her Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) by Governor Margaret Gardner before family and friends. This medal represents a lifetime of community commitment and service, a role which is ongoing.

On Friday 26 January, with Liz being officially named in the 2024 Australia Day Honours List, these two achievements sure have been very deserving accomplishments for our Chaplain to start 2024.

When ‘out of class’ Liz is, amongst other things, a social worker, former national coordinator of the drought relief committee (and still a member), Justice of the Peace, supporter and trauma counsellor during Black Saturday bushfires, 2022 flood chaplain, Victoria Police chaplain and emergency services chaplain – and that’s just getting started.

Well done Liz Spicer. We are very proud of her hard work, dedication and efforts both at our college and within the Kyabram community.
