Dear SJV Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break with your family and friends and are ready for another busy term here at school. This term is a longer one than usual (11 weeks in total) with plenty taking place throughout Term 2. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as students arrived at school on Monday morning. Some were on the faces of students while many were on the faces of parents!!

Every school term is busy and earlier on in the week you would all have received a copy of your child’s class Term Letter. The term letter details what is planned to take place in the classroom so please make sure that you take the time to read it and if you have any questions, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

I look forward to all that this term brings, particularly all the learning that takes place within classrooms and specialist lessons. There is a great deal to look forward to.

SJV School Cross Country

Tomorrow we have the SJV School Cross Country starting at 12pm. This will take place on the oval at school and the ovals across the road (Walter Galt Reserve). Students will assemble on our school oval at 12pm with the first event starting at 12.08pm with the Preps running with their Year 6 buddy. The order of events are as follows:

  1. Prep & Buddies Race - 1 Lap (12.08pm)
  2. 9/10 age group - 2 Laps (roughly 12.30pm)
  3. Grade 1 - 1 Lap (roughly 12.55pm)
  4. Grade 2 - 1 Lap (roughly 1.10pm)
  5. 11 & 12/13 Age groups - 3 Laps (roughly 1.15pm)

Each lap is 1km. Please view the course outline below:

Students are to wear their coloured sports teams T-Shirt for this event. If Prep students do not have their coloured house sports teams T-Shirt, then the SJV sports top is fine.

Children from ages 9 to12 can participate in this event as a practice/trial to represent SJV in the District Cross Country in later on in the term. The District Cross Country event will take place on Tuesday the 14th of May. More information will be shared with the families of students selected for this event in the coming weeks of Term 2.

If any parents are able to assist with either the setting up of this event or marshalling, could you please meet with Ms McAllister at the school oval at 11.45am on Friday morning in the school office.

No permission form is required for the Cross Country event as it is considered a local excursion.

If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Ms McAllister or the office.

Anzac Service

The ANZAC Day ceremonies are a special time in the school year and it is very pleasing to see how our children grow in respect and knowledge, each year, of the significance of ANZAC Day.

Next Thursday the 25th of April, all students and their families are invited to the Mentone RSL service at Memorial Park commencing at 8.40am. Any students who attend this service are to wear their full school winter uniform. Mrs Hannan will be there and will gather the students together as I am attending the official Anzac day march in the city.

In addition to our participation in this community event our Year 6 leaders will lead the school in our own ANZAC service next Wednesday commencing at 3pm in the MPR. Parents are most welcome to attend.

Year 6 student leaders will be coming around to classrooms from tomorrow morning onwards up until Anzac Day on Thursday, 25th April selling badges and other merchandise. Please support this worthy cause. Prices: $1, $2, $3, $4 & $5 Prices: $1, $2, $3, $4 & $5.

SJV Car Park Etiquette

I am asking for everyone's assistance please. I have received a number of complaints at the re-commencement of term regarding some drivers not complying with parking restrictions and perhaps more concerning the “no entry” signs on Brisbane Terrace.

This is a massive safety issue and we need to ensure that ALL parents/grandparents are following these rules especially during drop off and pick up times.

While it is frustrating at the moment due to the lack of car parking spaces due to the works taking place at the community center, I would appreciate it that parents are patient and respectful with one another when parking during drop off and pick up times. Please ensure that if there are any issues or concerns that parents deal with it in an appropriate manner.

STOMP Program

The Stomp program begins next Tuesday. All students are to wear their sports uniform on this day.

New Online Portal

Our new portal is now live and we are ready for all parents to log on, set up passwords and update student details.

We will no longer be using Operoo for notifications, permission forms and student medical information. This new portal that we already use for reports and student attendance will now be our source of truth for student details. This will produce First aid notifications that will be emailed to you if your child has required attention during the day. Another advantage of this portal is that it will notify both parents with any information that we publish. We will eventually also use this for absentee forms and Teacher/ Parents interviews. We will keep you updated as we start using new components of the portal.

All parents need to use the following link to log on.

https://portal.nforma.com.au/login

Please note when you log on you have to use the email registered to the school for school reports (new parents- it will be the one you registered on your enrolment form) you then  need to click forgot password and then create a new password. You will then be all setup.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME GLITCHES WITH THIS NEW SYSTEM AND ANY PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN SHARED BY PARENTS WITH THE OFFICE HAS EITHER BEEN RECTIFIED OR IN THE PROCESS OF BEING FIXED.

If you are still having issues please contact Nicole in the office

NCCD

Please make sure that you take the time to read the following information regarding the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) On School Students with Disability.

Reminders

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.
  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.
  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
  • The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 2nd of May.

Regards
