Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

Literacy:

Year 5/6 have done a fantastic job at researching, drafting, revising, and publishing information reports on a type of energy source. This has created a wealth of knowledge for the students as we move into Types of Energy (Kinetic and Potential) in our inquiry unit!

Numeracy

Focusing on units of measurement, students have been busy crafting nift and agile paper planes to model how we can measure mm, cm, m, km… (None quite reached the 1km mark!).

Inquiry

Inquiry has been jam packed with research, experiments and investigations as we study types of energy.

Focusing on kinetic and potential, we have looked at a range of ways in which we use these in everyday life, and elsewhere, differentiating between renewable and non-renewable sources, the environmental impact and the efficiency of these.

Focusing last week on the gravitational pull on a marble rolling down a marble rollercoaster created by the students!

Other news for our seniors:

  • Congratulations to everyone for raising money when walking laps around the school decorated in school colours, the lapathon was a great day.
  • As well as this, many of our students were able to advance to Hanging Rock to run cross country. As a second round, some of our students advanced through to the third run taking place this Friday, good luck to those still competing!
  • Our soccer teams played well with both girls and boys team placing 4th place at the school soccer competition. Well done soccer players!

Parent helpers needed:

We still require parent helpers for the following events:

  • Monday 20th May Winter sports Football and Softball teams @Romsey Oval
  • Swimming 27-31st May Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Looking forward to the many more exciting events taking place in the next few weeks.
