In Writing we are continuing to focus on our single paragraph outlines. Students are using a plan to write a topic sentence with supporting details. Our students have done an excellent job of turning these into a well organised paragraph and linking this writing skill with our knowledge of the respiratory and circulatory systems.
The Year 4 students have thoroughly enjoyed our Health Unit on respiration and circulation. As part of our weekly investigation, students created their own model of the lungs using straws and freezer bags. We are wrapping this unit up next week and to celebrate we are having a special visit from a volunteer from the health care community to answer any of our questions and further explain the processes of breathing and how our blood circulates.
In Numeracy we are continuing our learning of the operations focusing, on subtraction and using regrouping to solve subtraction problems. Students have practised this skill and will be moving onto using these skills when solving worded problems.
Students have also been exploring measurement, and using formal units to measure and compare length, mass, and capacity. We have learnt how to use mm and cm and explored different units of measurement. Students discussed how different units are appropriate for different objects.
This week we are continuing our focus of designing a playground for a group of students. We first talked about what we are grateful for when thinking about our playground and how lucky we are that our school is able to provide this for us. This week we used grid paper to sketch what our playground design looks like. Students included things like rock climbing walls, slides, ropes courses and seesaws.
