Literacy

In Literacy we have been learning Stage 7.2 phonemes and graphemes, such as /ar/ /a/ and /al/ making the same ‘r’ controlled sound.

To improve writing, we have been practising how to write sentences using correct punctuation and compare sentence types, for example, statements, questions, exclamations, commands.

We have been enjoying using our imagination and creativity to plan and write narratives using our Story Champs elements. Students have enjoyed having discussions about characters, settings, problems and solutions and have even used picture prompts to create our own stories as a class!

The students have been eagerly learning about insects in our knowledge unit, and loved being able to experience the Mini-Beast Incursion where students had the opportunity to get up close and personal with butterflies, caterpillars and other insects. We had so much FUN!

Numeracy

We have been working on improving our fluency in addition and subtraction, by engaging in games such as Race to 50 and Number Snap. We are beginning to expand our efficiency in addition, by learning new strategies such as the 'count on' strategy and the 'split' strategy.

Students have been learning how to create tally marks, picture graphs and bar graphs, as well as the key features of graphs such as including the title and a key.

We have also been practising how to measure and compare the length of different objects around us using informal units, such as unifix cubes and MAB blocks!

SEL

In SEL we have been learning about the power of gratitude and mindfulness. We have been completing activities surrounding these practices and discussed what we are grateful for and why. Mother’s Day was a fantastic opportunity for students to create cards and messages for their Mother’s/special person to share their appreciation.
