Year 2

Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead Excursion

Year 2 visited Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead in Wandin North in the Yarra Valley last week - 2J and 2BS on Tuesday 30 April and 2H and 2F on Friday 3 May.

It was truly a blast from the past!

During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Farmer Jill, who was an amazing tour guide for the day. From learning about traditional woodturning to experiencing the art of blacksmithing, our students were captivated by the age-old crafts and skills on display.

One of the highlights was watching a woodturner in action, creating a beautiful table spinner right before our eyes. Not only did we get to witness the magic of timber being transformed into art, but we also got to take a class spinner back and play with handmade wooden toys.

At the Olden Days school, our students stepped back in time to discover what education was like in the past. From using abacuses to writing on chalkboards, they gained a newfound appreciation for the tools and methods of learning used by previous generations.

To top it off, we even had the chance to get creative and make souvenirs like doll pegs and fragrant perfume bags. It was a hands-on experience that allowed our students to connect with history in a meaningful way.

Overall, the trip was an eye-opening adventure that sparked reflection and appreciation for the changes that have occurred over time.
