Year Six

Rosehill Secondary College Reflection

As part of their transition program, Year Six students recently attended Rosehill Secondary College to experience 'A Day in the Life of a Secondary Student'! Please enjoy some student reflections below:

Recently, the Year Sixes have had a memorable experience at Rosehill Secondary College  to see the life of high school students. We participated in three periods of learning, in the first lesson we learnt a lot about how light works in technology class. Soon after we created lightsabers. After that we made our way to art where we sketched out a colourful skull in celebration of Día de los Muertos also known as the day of the dead. Following on, our class made our way to the auditorium where we watched various performances from the current students at Rosehill. There were many performances we watched such as singing, dancing, and melodrama. Personally, my favourite subject that day was watching the performances. Numerous students put their hands up and were bold enough to show what they did best. After the performances I spoke to a couple of people who put on a show and they were some of the nicest people I have met. Having the chance to be at Rosehill was definitely an amazing and unforgettable adventure.

Over the weeks covered, the Year Sixes had a golden opportunity. When we got to school last Wednesday morning, it was a nice boiling day with the sun shining. We went on the bus to see what it's like to be a Rosehill Secondary College student. In the first of the three periods we went to learn about technology. First we started to learn about light and how it works. After we learnt more about it the teachers guided us into making working LED powered lightsabers. After we went out, we played and connected with the community around us. After we had some fun outside we met back at the place we got dropped off. Afterwards the arts teacher came and welcomed us into her classroom. We then had a quick chat about what was the day of the dead or Día de Muertos following that discussion we were allowed to create our own design on paper. We then copy and pasted on another piece of paper.

After we followed the same drill between the sessions 1 - 2 and 2 - 3. Then we were introduced to the coolest dances and singers. To sum the day.

Last Wednesday, The year Year Sixes got to go to Rosehill Secondary College for their transition to high school. Some kids got to make lightsabers and learn about LED lights and understand how they work in Systems Technology.

In Performing Arts the students at Rosehill put on some performances. In Art people got to design a skull for Día de los Muertos. Students got to experience how it feels to be in high school and they could see if they wanted to go to Rosehill Secondary College. All teachers were very nice and welcomed us to their classroom. Overall it was really fun to do new sessions and to explore the school.

Last week on Wednesday all the Year Sixes got the chance to go to Rosehill Secondary College. This experience was supposed to be about getting the Year Sixes prepared for high school. I loved being in Rosehill for a day because it was really fun walking to different classes and meeting different schools. Every class had three classes to do, my class did Tech, Art and we watched high school students perform different things, like singing, dancing,  drama and much more. In Tech we made lightsabers, we learnt how light is used and what it is. In Art we scratched out skulls, representing the day of the dead. My favourite part of this experience was watching the high school students perform, personally I really enjoyed watching the dances because they all had something unique to them. On the way back to school I realised that I learned so much in high school only in one day, this was an amazing experience.
