Positive Behaviour for Learning

Every child has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach.

Lesson Plan: Food Safety and Allergies

Step 1: List Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning to :

  • Understand that some people have serious food allergies
  • Recognise what anaphylaxis is
  • Learn practical ways to keep our friends safe
  • Practise being a caring, responsible “food safety mate.”

It will look like:

  • Washing our hands before and after eating
  • Not sharing any food with others at school
  • Knowing what my friends are allergic to

Getting help straight away if my friends are sick.

Step 2:  List a rationale for teaching the behaviour

Why is it important?

Holy Rosary School Values:

Relationships, Respect, Resilience, Integrity, Kindness.

Holy Rosary School Expectations:

Safety is our right. Learning is our responsibility. Respect is our way.

Step 3:  Identify examples and non-examples of the desired behaviour What would the behaviour look/sound like?

Examples

Eating your own food

Washing hands before and after eating

Cleaning tables before and after eating

Getting help if someone I know with an allergy is sick

Knowing who in my class has allergies/anaphylaxis

Cleaning up after myself when eating

Sitting at my table to eat my food

What would the behaviour not look/sound like?

Non-examples

Sharing food

Leaving food scraps around the classroom or out on the yard

Bringing food, other than fruit/veg out onto the yard

Touching other people or their belongings after eating, before I have washed my hands

Eating my food on the floor or moving around the classroom while eating
