Visual storytelling is the practice of communicating a message, idea, or narrative through visual elements such as objects, symbols, composition, and materials, rather than relying only on text or spoken words. At its core, visual storytelling brings together two key elements: story and visuals.
The following Photogram examples provide insights into how everyday objects can communicate hidden meanings, personal experiences, emotions, and themes. Students have created artworks through carefully selected objects and arrangement to tell a story. The accompanying excerpts provide further context inviting the audience to understand, connect with, and engage with each artwork through shared experiences and emotions.
As you view each example, consider: What story is being told? What might the objects symbolise? What hidden meanings can you uncover?

Growing up has been a journey of discovering who I am and what inspires me. Through trying new things, I found my passions like speed skating, music and aviation, each teaching me resilience, confidence and determination. This photogram represents not only the things I enjoy but also the experiences that have shaped me into the person I am still becoming. It reminds me that growing is about exploring new things and finding what truly makes me, unique. ~ Riley Higgins

In today's society, there is an unfortunate tendency among students to criticise those who aim to achieve high. Many pupils tend to spend their time mocking those who answer every question in class, ask for feedback from educators or put in long afternoons studying; these efforts are often simply regarded by peers as 'trying too hard'. My piece aims to question those who view hard-working academics as 'overachievers' or 'tryhards' — as often, students who strive for academic success seek to better the world we live in as a whole, not simply for bragging rights or personal gain.

The story between a Beyblade and someone shows their connection, and passion. It reveals a person's personality and how connected they may be. My artwork portrays how nostalgia is a part of life so don't live life reminiscing. Instead, create more memories to reflect on. ~ Levi Cope

This artwork shows the deepness and complexity that surrounds a personality. Although past experiences help to shape and define it, a personality always has room to grow and blossom into something more intricate. ~

This image brings together the things that make up my everyday life and show what is important to me. The football represents the team I support and the sense of loyalty and belonging that comes with being part of something bigger. The food represents the things I enjoy and the moments of comfort and happiness they bring.
The netball imagery reflects my love of sport, showing my energy, competitiveness and enjoyment of being active. The pillows represent more than just my love of sleep—they symbolise the need to rest and recharge after busy days spent playing sport, shopping and spending time with friends. Together, these objects tell a story about who I am, what I enjoy and the balance between being active, connected and taking time for myself. ~ Sophie Longridge

A collection of small details comes together to reveal a bigger story about the moments that bring happiness, connection and meaning to my life. The people standing together symbolise friendship and belonging, while the heart represents love and emotional connection. The basketball reflects my enjoyment of sport, the makeup represents self-expression and personal interests, and the waves suggest memories, freedom and experiences. Each symbol holds its own meaning, but together they allow the audience to uncover the different experiences and relationships that make up my identity. ~ Sammy Vinen

The icebergs are sinking, our trees are being massacred. They cut them down because they see no beauty in them, they only see money. The world is disappearing, and it is all our fault.
~ Oscar Minas
