Skate Pong
Over at the Errol St campus the Year 3-6 students have been strapping on their helmets, sliding on their pads and hitting the concrete for skateboarding lessons. With skill development ranging from kickflip mini-lessons through to simply making the wheely things roll, we have all been aiming to step up our skills. The Year 3’s have proved their rubbery fearlessness by being the most successful cohort at tackling the mighty two-stair set drop off. And don’t worry folks, helmets, kneepads and wrist guards have been required for those brave enough to roll up to the drop.
Ping Pong has been our wet weather back up plan. Some of the Year 6’s are showing skills far beyond their years. Top spin, deft placement and all round paddle skills shining through. There may have even been a handful that were able to out ping the pongs of the PE teachers!
The Dead Hang Challenge
Over at the Molesworth campus the juniors have been testing their mettle on the new gymnastics bar. Last week students battled it out to see who could manage the longest dead hang - a timed hang with no part of the body touching the floor.
A giant shout out to Harriet from 2B who smashed our expectations with an insane 3 minute 14 second dead hang. A phenomenal feat of strength!
This week's pull-up challenge has already begun, with some young athletes managing a solid 5 strict chin-over-bar pull ups! Let’s see if anyone can beat that result by the week’s end…
As we approach the halfway mark of the term we are changing track and diving into striking, with a focus on Cricket skill development (be sure to ask your kids about the punching bag). Gymnastics will be our wet weather back up. Speaking of wet, across Weeks 8 and 9 we will see all our Prep - 6 students head down to North Melbourne Recreation Centre to dive into Swimming Lessons as a part of our Swimming and Water Safety Program. Classroom teachers will keep you up to date with information about this in the weeks to come.
