From Mr Collins 2-6
Grade 5/6 Cluster Canberra Camp
Our Grade 5 students have been having a blast this week whilst on camp in Canberra with their peers from across our Campaspe Cluster. Highlights have included visits to Parliament House, The Mint, War Memorial and Questacon!
From Mrs Lehre P/1
Discovery Science
Our P/1 students had an amazing time diving into the world of fossils last week. We explored the book The Fossil Whisperer, learned about different types of fossils, and discovered how they are made. The highlight was creating our very own salt-dough trace fossils.
Literacy
Students in the little room have been exploring the vibrant world of The Smeds and the Smoos! This week, we focused on using describing words to make our writing livelier and more detailed. Students wrote sentences about the characters and their adventures, showing great imagination and growing confidence.
When reading at home, we encourage you to support your child’s learning by asking simple describing-word questions to help build their vocabulary and comprehension.
Wellbeing
Last week, P/1 students created their own breathing sticks using colourful beads and pipe cleaners. These simple tools are a fun and effective way to help children practise mindful breathing and regulate their emotions throughout the day.
To use the breathing stick at home, encourage your child to:
- Hold the stick in one hand.
- Slide a bead slowly from one end to the other as they take a deep breath in.
- Slide the next bead while breathing out slowly.
- Repeat until they feel calm and settled.
Breathing sticks are a great way to support self-regulation, reduce stress, and build positive wellbeing habits. Feel free to try them together during quiet moments, bedtime routines, or whenever your child needs help calming their body and mind.
