GRADE 6 BIKE RIDE TO MEENIYAN

Our Grade 6 students were fortunate to enjoy perfect weather on Wednesday for their big ride to Meeniyan and back along the Great Southern Rail Trail. Students rode in groups and showed fantastic teamwork, encouragement, and determination throughout the day.

We were incredibly lucky to have the support of many wonderful parent helpers, including Nicole and Mark Bland, Caz Brown, Ange Cook, Jess Cottle, Tamika Hanily, Matt Johnson, Bec Kranen, Eden Shields, and Megan Smith. Their help made the day run smoothly, and we are extremely grateful for their time and enthusiasm.

A special thank you goes to Jon Openshaw, who joined us both as a parent and as a representative of the Great Southern Rail Trail. Jon shared an informative talk about his role and how the trail is managed. During the ride, we were delighted to spot two koalas, and Jon provided fascinating insights into koala care, management, and the work being done to support and protect their population along the trail. Jon does an outstanding job, and we truly appreciate his contribution.

We also extend our gratitude to Kerry Fitzgerald, a long-time supporter of our Bike Ed program. As a member of the Leongatha Cycling Club, Kerry generously shares her riding expertise, tips, and techniques with our students each year. Her guidance is invaluable and always appreciated.

We are also very fortunate to have the Victorian Police ride alongside us. Their presence and traffic support make the on-road sections of our journey much safer, and the students love demonstrating their safe riding skills.

To everyone who volunteered—thank you. Your time, care, and involvement are what make our Bike Ed program such a success. We simply could not run this day without your support.

The Bike Hike day truly highlighted the resilience and spirit of our students, leaving everyone with memories they’ll cherish long after the school year ends.
