The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.

As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,

animals, plants and waterways.

We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.

Dear Families and Carers of Moorabbin Primary School,

STAFF STRUCTURE FOR 2026 UPDATE

Hopefully after this final round of recruitment I can definitively announce the FINAL staff structure.

Below you will see a couple of highlighted staff names which now show that the school will be running with 4 year 1 classes and we have been able to source and employ a qualified music teacher who will work full time and our students will enjoy the music program from Foundation to Year 6 as opposed to a “term about” approach which we have been running for the past number of years, due to Ms Howden being a part time staff member.

After consideration and an induction to a possible new workplace Mr Leeden has decided that it was not the right fit for him and he will remain with us in 2026 and continue his important work in the area of our English work sharing his Year 1 class with Ms Lescesen.

All other staff remain as they were announced in my last edition.

NAPLAN RESULTS

Over the course of the last couple of weeks there has been a great deal of media releases about the recent NAPLAN results highlighting the top 200 schools and those that have showed significant improvement in their results.

We are very proud to share that our school has achieved significant improvement in our NAPLAN results this year. While NAPLAN represents just one snapshot of student learning, the data reflects strong growth across key areas and highlights the consistent effort our students have shown in developing their literacy and numeracy skills. These results are a testament to their persistence, willingness to engage in learning challenges, and the pride they take in their progress. It is wonderful to see their commitment reflected so clearly in this achievement.

This improvement also speaks to the collective work of our entire school community. Our teachers have implemented high-impact instructional strategies, closely monitored student progress, and worked collaboratively to deliver targeted and engaging learning experiences. Families have supported learning routines at home, prioritised attendance, and partnered closely with us. Together, these efforts have created an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and motivated. While NAPLAN is only one measure of success, the results are encouraging and affirm the positive direction of our school. We are incredibly proud of what our students, staff, and community have achieved.

MOORABBIN PRIMARY WAS RANKED 97 OUT OF THE TOP 200 SCHOOLS THAT ACHIEVED FANTASTIC RESULTS IN YEAR 5

CHRISTMAS MARKET

As a school and staff, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all parents and community members who contributed to the organisation and success of this year’s Christmas Market. Your generosity, creativity, and willingness to give your time made the event truly special. From setting up stalls and coordinating volunteers to preparing food, decorations, and activities, every effort helped create a warm and festive atmosphere that brought our school community together in the best possible way.

A particularly big thank you goes to our Tash (P&F Co president 1) and her hubby Paul. They came in early on the Friday of the 28th and set up and organised the gym BY THEMSELVES with no help! I know how much work has gone into this and her work behind the scenes and on the day did not go UNNOTICED… THANK YOU, Jas as other co-president of the P&F, always brings so much fun and energy to each event and we so enjoyed watching her join in with the choir… a woman of many talents. THANKYOU to these absolutely incredible parents and amazing copresidents!!!

Also, a huge thanks to Alica and her hubby… Mark, we could not have made the saga of “mini’s” work without him and Alicia there you were again right up till the end… THANK YOU!!!!

To all other parents who helped, supported, sold, made, cleaned up, packed up organised, emailed and were there for the market THANKYOU! Your dedication and tireless planning ensured that the market ran smoothly from start to finish.

Everyone’s attention to detail, strong teamwork, and unwavering commitment to our school was evident in every aspect of the event. The coordination behind the scenes, the many hours of preparation, and the thoughtful touches added throughout the market showcased the remarkable passion and capability of our P&F presidents and parent helpers who came together, your leadership…outstanding!

From me, our team in the office, Karmen, Mahela, Lisa and from our staff we warmly congratulate you guys, and the P&F, on delivering such an outstanding community occasion—one that not only raised valuable funds for the school but also strengthened the sense of connection and joy across our community. The positive feedback from families, staff, and visitors has been overwhelming, and it is a testament to your collective efforts and heart that went into the lead up and most importantly on the day.

We are deeply grateful for your partnership, enthusiasm, and continued support.

Total monies raised for this event was: $4,313 well done to all, a fantastic result!

OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURT ALMOST COMPLETED

I am thrilled to share that the new outdoor basketball court is now in its final stages of completion and will soon be ready for our students to enjoy. This exciting addition represents the culmination of several important facility upgrades undertaken over recent years to enhance our learning and play spaces. The project has been made possible through the dedicated fundraising efforts of our very active MPS P&F, whose commitment, energy, and generosity have had a significant impact on improving the school environment for all students. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing support and the contributions of our wider community, and we look forward to seeing the students make full use of this fantastic new space in the coming week, fingers crossed that it will be ready for the final week of the school year!

GRADUATION 2025

On Monday 8 December 2025, we had the great pleasure of celebrating our Year 6 students at their graduation ceremony, a truly memorable event that honoured their achievements, growth, and contributions throughout their primary school journey.

It was wonderful to see parents, carers, grandparents, and family members come together in such strong numbers to support and applaud our graduates. The atmosphere was filled with pride, excitement, and emotion as our students reflected on their years at school and looked ahead to the next chapter. Their confidence, maturity, and genuine joy on the night were a testament to the young people they have become and a reminder of the strong foundations they have built here.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible commitment and hard work of our Year 6 teaching team Ms Hannah Wood, Ms Marnie Clarke and Mrs Mary Tsekouras, along with our specialist staff, Mr Yeaman, Mrs Katis, Mr Fang, Mrs Kelly and Mr Mouncer all who contributed behind the scenes. From the preparation of the ceremony to the thoughtful presentation of awards and video messages, every detail reflected the care and dedication our staff bring to supporting students through this important milestone.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for creating such a warm, respectful, and beautifully organised celebration. We are immensely proud of the Class of 2025 and wish them every success as they embark on their secondary school journeys.

On behalf of the school, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Graduation Committee for the time, creativity, and dedication invested in preparing this year’s celebration. The decorations, presentation, and attention to detail were nothing short of outstanding. You transformed the space into something truly special, creating an atmosphere that honoured our Year 6 students and made their milestone moment both memorable and meaningful.

The feedback from families, students, and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how beautiful and professional the setting looked. Your commitment and teamwork exemplify the spirit of our community, and we deeply appreciate the countless hours and thoughtful planning that went into making the event such a success.

Thank you for helping our graduates feel valued, celebrated, and proud as they marked the end of their primary school journey and to all the parents and carers who attended and helped packed up at the end of the evening.

THANK YOU!

YEAR 3 BILLIE CART AND TEAM BUILDING INCURSION

Our Year 3 students enjoyed a fantastic and action-packed day filled with teamwork, creativity, and plenty of laughs as they took part in a series of team-building challenges. The highlight of the day was working in small groups to design and construct their very own billy carts, requiring careful planning, negotiation, and shared decision-making. Students took great pride in their creations, supporting one another through each step of the building process and celebrating every small success along the way. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they realised what they could achieve through cooperation and persistence.

Once the carts were complete, the excitement truly began as each team raced their billy cart around the school’s running track, cheered on loudly by their classmates and teachers. The activity showcased the importance of working collaboratively, communicating effectively, and solving problems together. These are all essential skills that support students both in and out of the classroom.

Most importantly, the students had enormous fun while being active, engaged, and deeply involved in hands-on learning. It was a memorable day that strengthened friendships, encouraged resilience, and highlighted the joy of learning through shared experiences.
