At Greenhills Primary School, we are incredibly proud of the rich leadership opportunities we provide for our students and the confident, compassionate and collaborative leaders they are becoming. Through programs such as our Action Teams and our “LEADER” badges initiative we support students to develop their voice, responsibility and service to others. These experiences help them grow in confidence, build strong connections across our community and understand the positive impact they can make.
A G.R.E.A.T. example of this in action last week was our Year 5/6 Action Team stepping beyond the school gate and into meaningful community service. The team walked together to the Greenhills Neighbourhood House to help unpack and sort all of the food hamper donations that they had collected through their recent “Reverse Advent Calendar” drive. These hampers will be distributed to local families in need, and our students played a hands-on role in supporting this important work. Did you know that over 60 of these food hampers are handed out each week to families in need?
Many thanks to Ros Mackie for supporting the students to organise this and thank you to everyone who made a donation. This is something that we will continue to do each year as we build a strong link with Greenhills Neighbourhood House.
We are incredibly proud of all our Action Teams this year. Our Year 5 & 6 students have certainly left their mark and helped to embed the strong sense of community spirit that is at the core of our school culture.
We have a saying at Greenhills that “leadership is not about a badge, it is about what you do everyday”. Having said that, a core part of our Year 5 & 6 student leadership program is actually the chance to earn 6 different badges over the two years!!
Each badge represents a part of the word “LEADER” as follows:

To obtain these badges, the students are required to demonstrate that they understand and have modelled each element. They use a journal to write a reflection that discusses what they have learned and how they have shown this skill by sharing three different examples.
Here is a small snapshot that highlights some of this learning:
“I learned that before you make a decision, you need to think about what others like, not just yourself”.
“Saying hard things to your friends is sometimes quite challenging, but as a leader it is really important”.
“This experience taught me that if you empower each other to make them rise, they will be able to feel a little more noticed and feel more seen.

We are excited to confirm that our Prep team for next year is Abby Drapper, Andrea Williams, Isabelle Hall and Steph Burns. Steph will work each Friday in PAW with Andrea working Mondays – Thursdays. We always try to confirm this team prior to the rest of the school as we still have our prep 2026 orientation program running.
We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, laughter and milestone moments with our newest Greenhills students.
Get set for a big week next week!
On Tuesday night we have our last School Council meeting which we always combine into a dinner as well. Then on Wednesday night we have over 160 students performing at our Greenhills Music Festival. This event has almost “sold out” and there is plenty of excitement building. Then on Thursday we continue the music and performing theme with our Christmas Concert, noting that this a very casual evening and not to the level of our whole school productions!
