Physical Education

This term, our Prep–2 students learnt or elaborated on their skipping sills. Students developed important skills such as coordination, balance, rhythm, and timing, while also improving their focus and concentration. Following on from this we kicked off our exciting Scooter Education program across all year levels! Students have been busy learning how to ride safely, control their scooters, practice turning, braking and balancing and understand the importance of helmets and road awareness. They have also enjoyed fun challenges, obstacle courses and team activities that help build confidence, coordination, and resilience.

Today our Grade 3–6 students had the exciting opportunity to scoot their way to the local skate park, where they showcased their skills that they have been working hard to master. The sessions were filled with learning, laughter and plenty of action on wheels! Below is a recap from Charlotte Wolfe, who had the perfect view of all the fun as it unfolded.

Charlotte Wolf – Excursion to Skatepark

Today 34AE had the amazing opportunity to go to the Rochester Skatepark for our sports unit, scooter ed. Unfortunately, I couldn’t ride with the class due to my previously broken arm. I saw Harley, Fletcher and Harry do drop ins from the dome. I saw Ivy and Alexander have a race, then Sammuel and Audrey play rock, paper, scissors. I saw every student go down the ramp at least once. I was so lucky to witness this day of fun and happiness. It was a truly amazing session!

Performing Arts

We have had a wonderful term this term in the Performing Arts space. Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 have had the opportunity to learn from the Dance and Music Curriculum. The unit for dance was called Dance Creators. The students have been exploring dance and movement through purposeful play. They have also been learning to use their imaginations to help express their emotions and discover ways to communicate through dance. In music, the students have learnt about rhythm, melodies and the elements of music. They have had opportunities to play a variety of musical instruments and find their own joy in music making.

Grade 3-6 have also had the opportunity to learn in the Performing Arts space. Dance has included learning about the elements of dance, different styles of dance and unpacking how dance and movement can help them tell stories and express their own stories. The students have been working on choreographing their own dance in a small group, building teamwork and problem-solving skills. In music the students have been exposed to different styles of music from different cultures as well as learning about the basic elements of music. They have been practicing their rhythm and melody skills through hands on experience with a variety of musical instruments. The introduction of learning basic guitar skills has been met with excitement and joy.

Visual Arts

This term, students headed off on an adventure into The Great Outdoors!

Across the term we explored forests, deserts, seas, and even galaxies. Along the way, students collected shells, observed the world around them, and found inspiration in everything from cacti to bees to dragonflies.

In the art room, students experimented with a wide range of mediums and techniques to capture the textures, patterns, and colours of nature. The goal was for every student to see themselves as an artist - confident, curious, and proud of their creative choices, which I am sure they accomplished!

Each lesson encouraged imagination, creativity, and personal expression. Students were supported to share their ideas, try new processes, and enjoy the experience of making art. Inspired by the world around them, they produced thoughtful, unique works that celebrate the beauty of nature and their own creative voices.
