Principal's message

Hi Solway PS community,

I start this week’s newsletter with immense gratitude for all those who were able to support our Working Bee over the weekend. We are thrilled that our new Gaga Ball Pit is now complete and ready for students to enjoy. This project would not have been possible without our community coming together, giving generously of their time and expertise, and working side by side to improve our school grounds for all students. A huge thank you goes to the families who attended Saturday’s Working Bee. Many volunteers contributed far beyond an hour or two, with several parents working between four and eight hours to ensure the project was completed to a high standard. Through this collective effort, we have delivered the Gaga Ball Pit at around half the cost of engaging an external contractor allowing us to invest the funds in further works in the garden area.

We extend our sincere thanks to:

In preparation for the day:

  • Dan Skanthalingam & Tom Chapman

On the day:

  • Dave Hicks – whose leadership and expertise on the day made the project possible
  • Tim Smith & Kim Noakes – digging holes
  • Dave McLean & Dan Skanthalingam – concrete work
  • Matt Harrison – shovelling
  • Deb Brown, Dave McLean & Sally Hamilton – levelling gravel inside the pit
  • Dave, Dan & Tim – finishing works

We are very grateful for the hours of hard work, problem-solving, and teamwork that went into bringing this project to life.

As we reach the end of another busy and successful year, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our entire Solway Primary School community for your generosity and enthusiasm at our fundraising events throughout 2025. Whether it was the School Fair, Trivia Night, Footy Day, or any of our other community events, your contributions have made a tremendous difference.

Because of your support, we can fund a number of exciting upgrades and resources that will directly benefit our students, including:

  • New football posts for the oval
  • New electronic school sign
  • New carpet for the Prep and Grade 2 classrooms
  • A snow cone machine
  • A new school marquee for events and carnivals

These improvements will help enhance our learning environment and enrich the experiences we can offer our students. A very special thank you goes to our Fundraising Committee, Lauren Daniell, Michelle Sparsi and Kim James for their energy, creativity and countless hours of work behind the scenes. Their efforts ensure that these events not only raise funds but also build the strong sense of community we value so much at Solway Primary School.

Finally, All classes have commenced their preparation for the Carols Evening to be held on Friday 12 December commencing at 5:30pm. Students are encouraged to come along in their festive attire, ready to perform with their classes on this very special night on the School Calendar.

Students will sit together with their classes during the evening. Parents are encouraged to bring along a picnic dinner or purchase a sausage or burger from the BBQ, rug or chairs, and to gather in front of the Performing Arts Stage anytime from 4:00pm.

Please note that this is an alcohol-free event. You’re welcome to bring along alcohol-free refreshments to enjoy while singing along and soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Thank you for your continued support and let’s all keep striving to be our best always.
