The week everyone had been looking forward to finally arrived, CAMP!

The teachers were extremely proud of every one of our students and the way they conducted themselves over the three days we were away. Feedback from the camp staff and the workers in Cowes was overwhelmingly positive; they shared that our students were well-mannered, respectful and a pleasure to work with. As teachers, this made our time away from our own families truly enjoyable.

On behalf of the Year 6 team and students, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the volunteer teachers who gave up time from their own classes and families to support us and help make our camp such a success. Once again, thank you to Mrs Ball, Mrs Hall, Mrs D-F and Mrs Stoppa. Without your time and support, this camp would not have been possible.

We hope you enjoy the recounts from our students!

From the 12th to the 14th of November, Year 6 travelled on bus to Phillip Island Adventure Resort for our last camp in primary school. We stopped at San Remo for a hour and a half lunch break where there were seagulls everywhere before a short drive to the camp ground. On the bus, we found out our activity groups and cabins. I was in a cabin 40 with Gabi, Isla and Alexandra and in the cabin there was 2 single beds and a bunk bed. I slept on the top bunk both nights but most of the time I was jumping from the top onto Gabi's single bed. Isla was also in my activity group with Mrs Hall as the group teacher. Once we all had put our bags into the cabins, we got ready to go for the beach walk.

In the morning, we got woken up earl and somehow I had no socks on when i went to sleep with both socks on. We went down to breakfast, which was toast, scrambled eggs, bacon hash browns and cereal if you wanted. I had raft-making right after breakfast, which was pretty fun. The girls made a pretty stable raft, and I got us an extra rope to use because I found an extra in the lake and pulled it out. The girls raft stayed together, but the boys raft fell apart as soon as it hit the water. Because of that the girls won the race. Then I had the twin flying fox, which was also pretty fun but wasn't really anything special. Then we had archery, right before the giant swing. The entire time I was nervous  for the giant swing, and when it was my turn I was yelling out 'no' while they were pulling me up. The I reached the top and pulled the trigger rope, and immediately screamed as I swung backwards. Everyone said I screamed the entire time, which was embarrassing but I didn't notice while I was on it because I was so terrified. Then, near the end I was yelling let me down, so the employee, Jack, decided to put the ladder right where I couldn't reach. Everyone watched as i kicked my legs and tried to swing over to it. Everyone said i screamed the loudest and the longest out of our group. We had camp cooking where we made pancakes, then we got to go to dinner. Dinner was veggies, which were probably frozen, potatoes (which were pretty good) and chicken which was soggy. It might not have been gourmet but it fed us. After dinner we got sorbet, which was delicious, then we got popcorn during the movie we watched after dinner. That was the end of our second day. Next day we got the same breakfast and then went canoeing. Oli t splashed me a lot so I got soaked.

A challenge that I overcame was going on the giant swing and to the top which I was really worried about and it was very fun and I was very happy after doing it. Another challenge I overcame was going on the flying fox which I was also really happy with.

Then It was time for the scariest of them all, the GIANT SWING. At the giant swing you get harnessed up and attached to a rope, you get pulled to the top (16 metres) or from the height you wanted to be swung from with the rope. I went to the top and it was very scary, you had to pull the chord by yourself, and you weren't facing where you were going to be swung from. I was very nervous, but jack was behind me and said if I went to the top he would to, and Raph was also telling me to go to the top because it was a scary but fun experience. I guess he was right.

On the 12-14th of November, the Year 6's made some unforgettable memories. From some hilarious moments to scary activities that made our souls leap out of our bodies, this camp will hold a place in our hearts forever. We stayed at Phillip Island Adventure Resort. They gave us a wide range of awesome activities to do during our stay.

The Giant swing was my favourite activity. Anticipation was high and excitement crackled in the air, static. Fortunately, I had done a Giant Swing before, and knew precisely what to expect, although that didn't quell the fact that the prospect of doing it was still terrifying. I wasn't too worried though, I was more focused on the exhilaration and how fun it was going to be when I finally got up there. I went tenth, so I had a fair bit of waiting to do before it was my turn. Once I was hooked up to the pulley, everyone started hauling me up. There was a queasy feeling in my stomach as I climbed higher and higher, and every part of me wanted to scream STOP!  But I bit my tongue and squeezed my eyes shut. Soon enough, I was at the top, dangling precariously eighteen metres above the ground. My hands were clammy with sweat, and with trembling fingers, I reached out and tugged the green rope, disconnecting myself from the pulley.   For a moment, I hung suspended in the air, and then I began my descent - my stomach dropping and swooping simultaneously as I screamed at the top of my lungs, grinning. Eventually, I lost my momentum and began to gradually slow, to my disappointment. Once I stopped swinging, Alwyn unclipped me and I climbed down the ladder, where I begun to loosen my harness.

The year six camp is and camp that I we always remember, It was filled with silly, funny and amazing memorable moments. Like when we got into our cabin and discovered that our bath room was huge and our friends cabin next to us bath room was so small like the size of our shower! Also when we were in San Remo and the seagulls stole Annabel's giant rap out of her bear hands. Or when I shouted Mr Marashil's  name really loudly from the top of the twin zip line when he was on the giants swing! I will miss the bus home when we were all singing songs on the top of our lungs. Phillip Island camp so fun and excited I had an amazing time.

On the way to Phillip Island, we stopped at San Remo which is the town right before the bridge to Phillip Island for lunch for about an hour, at San Remo there are always lots of seagulls so everyone there were all throwing food onto the ground for the seagulls to eat and when we did that so many seagulls all flew at it and fought over it people were also putting food on their heads and seagulls would fly over them and take the food we all had so much fun playing there at San Remo we did so m any fun things and it was very memorable. Once we got back on the bus, we went straight to the camp so we could get as much time as possible there.

When we got there we were all exited after a boring bus ride and we hopped out and started getting all our bags. We weren't allowed inside the cabins yet so instead we went to the dining hall after they had finished telling us about al the boring rules we were allowed in our cabin. I was cabin 42 with Scarlett, Liv, Baylie and also other people in the cabins there was bunk beds then a wall then there were more bunk beds in the back and at the back of the cabin a bathroom. Sadly some people in our cabin took the good beds before the rest of us got there so I was stuck on one of the beds behind the wall.

On the second day, my first rotation was Archery. I had two goes to try to hit the target,  and then started playing in the dirt and giving myself tattoos and fake tan. I turned out really well, so I wore it for the whole day. We got to our second rotation, which I was a little more interested in. It was the Giant Swing which had a height of 18 metres. I volunteered to go first and I had a lot of pressure put on me to go all the way. I got pretty close, but stopped one metre from the top. I felt bad because I didn't go the full way, but then my friends comforted me and made me feel better about it.

There were so many great meals and sacks but the best one in my opinion was the last day breakfast with the bacon and eggs and toast with apple juice as our drink. But when it was my tables turn to go up  , THERE WAS NO BACON  LEFT !!! Luckily they were getting some more and I got to be first to get some more !

I don't have a favourite activity but one I enjoyed a lot was canoeing. I enjoyed canoeing because I am a sea scout and I am experienced with a lot of water activities and enjoy peddling around in a canoe. The canoes were 2 person canoes so, I went with Will. During canoeing you needed to get PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices.) and helmets and paddles. We then did a safety briefing type thing then we chose our canoes and launched them. We launched them buy getting them into the water putting one side against the dock-like thing and getting in. The shortest person got in first and sat at the front and the tallest person got in second and sat in the back. After we launched, we paddled around our half of the lake for a while then we formed a raft with the leader of the activity and talked about how to play a form of gang-up with canoes. We chose what food we wanted to be and then we played that for the rest of the time. Once we were done, we dragged the canoes onto the dock like thing and headed to dinner.

My favourite activity was raft making; we had it on the first day at 10:15am. We did boys vs girls which was fair......ish but we delt with it and started to build the strangest raft possibly ever. Josh J was in charge of tying the ropes Me, Mason and Lucas B were in charge of lifting the PVC pipes, Toby B was in charge of putting the wooden planks in place and Liam and Raph were the people that were just goofing around. Then as soon as we put in the water the whole thing fell apart and the ropes came off so we all grabbed a pipe or a plank and tried to hold it together. But sadly that’s not how the story goes, it all fell apart so we held on to a pipe each an swam as fast as we could. Everyone was soaked and tired but then the activity group leader (Mrs Hall) told us that we had to disassemble the already disassembled raft which wasn’t hard and we WON......... or as we thought, Mrs Hall and Mrs Ball said the girls won because we weren't all on the raft at the same time!!!!!!! But we still won.

Something really hard for me was doing the giant swing it seemed so high and terrifying it was a woping 18 meters tall. As the lady running the activity clipped me in and my group raised me up. My heart was pounding but on the outside I tried to keep calm. Once I reached the top everyone gave me a countdown 3.   2.   1.  I pulled the rope and I felt my body float in the air. I did multiple swings before I started slowing down at the end. I had no regrets and loved it.

My favourite activity was the giant swing. The reason I enjoyed it was because you can choose how high you go. The swing was 18 metres high. I went all the way to the top. When it was my turn to go I was very nervous. The way it worked was all your group members pulled you up by a rope and then when you got to where you want to you say stop. But if you're going to the top you don't need to say stop. Then there was a green rope at the top and you can pull it and you will start swinging and then its the next persons turn.
