Welcome back to school! Term 4 is going to be a great time filled with exciting learning opportunities and new challenges for our students. We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and is ready to jump back into the classroom energised and refreshed. This term, we have a fantastic lineup of activities, projects, and events that will see us out to the summer holidays. With your continued support, we’re looking forward to making this final term of the year a memorable and successful one for all!

Reading

In our reading unit, students will be continuing reading Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Reading will be explored through read-alouds led by the teacher, paired reading and thoughtful discussions. As we journey with Percy through his encounters with Greek mythology, students will answer comprehension questions and delve into deeper analysis of the characters, settings, explicit and inferential meanings within the text. By blending reading practice with discussion, this unit will help students build critical thinking skills, deepen their understanding of the story and foster better language overall.

Writing

In Writing students will be exploring persuasive texts, following the writing process to develop their writing skills and researching topics they are passionate about. They will argue for or against their chosen topic to the relevant audience. Students will be learning how to create strong arguments, express their points of view clearly, and provide evidence to support them. Students will practice using the correct text structure, language features and digital resources to help produce their published pieces.

Numeracy

The concept of elapsed time will be the main subject of our next maths unit. Students will learn how to calculate the amount of time that has elapsed between a beginning and finishing point through practical exercises and scenarios from everyday life. Students will grow more proficient at reading clocks, comprehending time intervals and finding out start and end times as well. In addition to strengthening their time-telling abilities, this unit will assist children in incorporating these ideas into their everyday lives, which will make mathematics more interesting and practical.

Inquiry

Inquiry in Term Four is an exciting one! Students will be investigating contemporary economic and business issues and events. They will apply economic and business reasoning and interpretation to solve problems and understand the behaviour of participants in the economy. Students will understand how decisions will shape their future and think critically about their opinions.

Wellbeing

This term students will continue to work on the core principles of the Berry Street Education Model, which focuses on creating a trauma-informed and strength-based approach to support students' emotional and social development. By fostering resilience and self-regulation, this model equips students with the skills to navigate challenges, ultimately enhancing their academic success and personal growth.

Students will also engage in tasks related to real-life scenarios and themes that may impact them as they approach adolescence, allowing them to develop critical thinking and coping strategies in a supportive environment.

What I most enjoyed during the holidays was....

"During the holidays I went to Echuca. We camped next to the lake. While there we went into town and had lunch" (Noah S, 6A)

"Eating fish n chips for dinner at Mornington Beach. A seagull stole a chip out of my friend's hand" (Anni, 6B).

"I really enjoyed going to my friends' houses and shopping" (Eryn, 56C).
