  • Now that the sun has come back to join us, please ensure that your child has a named hat. ALL students are expected to wear a hat during playtimes
  • Please send in your child's reading satchel every day. Students MUST keep their take home readers and library books in their satchels to ensure they are protected. We will not be sending home readers without satchels.
  • We go to Library on Mondays so please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home.
  • Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
  • Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns.

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

Over the next two weeks we will be continuing our work on our stage 7.4 sounds, 'u-e' as in tunes from a tube, 'ue' as in muesli on Tuesday, 'ew' as in new friends, and 'u' as in music student.

We have started to work on developing our understanding of information reports. Students are using non-fiction texts to find information about prehistoric creatures and might start sharing some incredibly fun facts with you! We will also be reading 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl as our class novels and will continue to explore interesting vocabulary we see within the text.

Numeracy

Over the next two weeks we will be continuing to explore equal groups and creating arrays. Students will be working on their own individual array city so keep a look out as these will appear soon. We will also be developing our understanding of volume and capacity through the exploration of hefting using scales to compare the weights of objects around the classroom.

Inquiry

This term we are exploring the concept of 'Through Generation.’ Students will use their knowledge of the lives of people in the past to participate in conversations with their parents and grandparents. They will pose interesting questions and think of follow-up questions. Students will use language to describe events in the past, present and future and provide reasons for their conclusions. They will develop an interest in different ways that people tell stories and an appreciation of the importance of place to different cultures.

Wellbeing

We will continue to explore our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum this term, as well as focusing on regulating emotions and ensuring we are 'ready to learn,' or at least moving towards being in that headspace. The Grade Two students have done a wonderful job identifying their readiness to learn and in using their 'Ready to Learn Plans' to manage their emotions and learning.

Melbourne Museum Adventures

We had a WONDERFUL time at the Melbourne Museum. It was busy day where we saw a number of exhibits including Bugs Alive, Dinosaur Walk, Dynamic Earth, 600 Million Years, Triceratops Fate of the Dinosaurs and Gondwana Garden. Many of the students commented on wanting to return to explore in more depth as it was a jampacked day and we didn't get to spend a lot of time in each exhibit. Check out some pics below...

Thanks,

Grade Two Team
