Literacy
During Literacy, we are focusing on being a ‘good writer’ which involves being organised, sitting correctly, pincer pencil grip and correct letter formation. Students have enjoyed writing sentences during our dictation sessions. They have written sentences such as, Ralph sings the alphabet song. Wham! Seth landed flat in the mud. We have also discussed what a noun, verb and adjective is. Children have been reading a big book each day and focusing on the features of a fiction and non fiction text.

Maths
In Maths we are learning all about Place Value. We are making and representing teen numbers with a variety of counters. Children will be sequencing and ordering teen numbers. Additionally, we will be identifying one more and one less with numbers up to 20. Children will also be counting forwards and backwards with numbers up to 20.
Next, we will be learning about Fractional Thinking. We will be exploring the concept of halves.
Children learn important maths concepts through play. Here is a link to a game you could play at home:
Inquiry
Our Inquiry Unit in Term Four is titled, ‘Our Sustainable World’. Children will investigate the conditions required to sustain living things and how changing seasons impact on living things. We will discuss sustainable actions that enable us to care for our environment. For example, sustainable ways to keep warm in Winter and cool in Summer. Students will develop an interest in growing their own food.
Here is a movie clip about sustainability
Library
Our weekly library sessions have been an enjoyable experience for children as they have the opportunity to listen to stories and select their own texts to read. There are cosy huts for children to read quietly in and comfortable chairs to sit on and enjoy a good book.
Reminders
Satchels:
Please remember to send your satchel to school daily and check for notices. We will endeavour to change readers every Monday. Students have a QR code to Decodable Readers Australia with their own personal log in details. This is an excellent tool you can use at home to aid your at home reading. Additionally, each week we will provide students with a decodable book and an interest book, which will need to be returned to school.
Library Bags:
Please send in a named cloth bag every Tuesday for the library. This is a separate bag to their satchel. Students will not be allowed to take a book home without a bag.
Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes in their bag. This must include 2 pairs of socks and a full set of uniform (t-shirt, jumper, underwear and pants/dress). Please name all clothing items.
Grade 6 Buddies
Every fortnight, the Preps and their Grade 6 Buddies are participating in a variety of exciting activities. These include outdoor games, art, gardening, scavenger hunts and more!
Footy Day
Footy Day was buzzing with excitement. Children came dressed in their favourite sports team colours and paraded around the gym. The day was filled with fun footy activities and the following day the school cheered on the players in the annual Teachers vs Students footy match.
Fairy tale Incursion
Students watched fairy tales come to life performed by Carp Productions, laughing at a fun take on the big bad wolf, or should we say big good wolf. They giggled when the wolf dressed up as grandma and volunteers were called from the crowd to help with the performance. Students watched the ugly duckling turn into a beautiful swan and learnt about being beautiful on the inside. The performance received an enthusiastic round of applause.
Slime and Colour Explosion
The Preps were covered in bright colours and water while they ran around the obstacle course at the Slime and Colour Explosion. The children loved wearing their cool sunglasses and rainbow head bands. Another highlight was watching staff members get slimed!
