Teacher Professional Learning and an Updated Curriculum

This week on Wednesday, while our students were at home studying for exams, completing homework and taking care of their mental health, teachers were here at school delving into understanding the updated Victorian Curriculum.  The Victorian Curriculum has been updated and revised for relevance and effectiveness and to reflect contemporary educational needs and priorities.

Students will benefit from a revised curriculum that provides:

  • Access to the essential knowledge and skills to be successful as lifelong learners
  • The necessary knowledge and skills to follow chosen senior secondary pathways
  • A streamlined curriculum and higher-quality teaching and learning provisions

Teaching of the curriculum will benefit from

  • A more manageable and accessible curriculum with refined content descriptions
  • Resolution of overlap and duplication across the curriculum areas
  • Clear achievement standards for assessment of student learning
  • Additional curriculum resources

The Victorian Curriculum 2.0 begins with the implementation of the Mathematics and English curriculum in 2025 and other key learning areas following in 2026.  The work of staff this week involved understanding the curriculum changes and then looking at the units of work that we teach to see where we need minor updates or major changes to align our teaching with the requirements of the curriculum and ensure engaging learning will happen for our students.

Teaching staff are excited to be doing this work, and we look forward to seeing the impacts we can have on the learning of our students through the implementation of this revised curriculum.
