When classes commenced at the St Francis Xavier Junior Campus in 1987, the Bishop of Sale was Eric D’Arcy. He later became Archbishop of Hobart. Since opening as St Peter’s College in 1994, there have been four Bishops of the Sale Diocese. They were Jeremiah Coffey, Chris Prowse (now Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn), Patrick O’Regan (now Archbishop of Adelaide) and Greg Bennet. Bishop Bennet is the Tenth Bishop of Sale.
Each of the bishops had some contact with St. Peter’s College. Bishop Coffey, the longest serving of the bishops who have been named, had the most contact with St. Peter’s College. He blessed the original St. Peter’s College buildings, and his name is attached to the opening plaques of many other buildings situated at the Cranbourne Campus.
One custom that the bishops followed was to bless the badges of the College Captains of the Diocese of Sale.
This newsletter’s photographs are from the 2017 Blessing of the Badges. Pictured are Bishop Patrick O’Regan and College Captains from Cranbourne Campus, Henry Cooke and Emily Lace (now a teaching staff member of Marist-Sion College, Warragul) and from Clyde North Campus, Christian Dinglasan and Tais Lildaree.
The building in the background is Catholic College, Sale.
