From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
Dear Parents, Students and families,
As we get down to the business end of term three, there is much to look forward to with some of those rite of passage moments to experience as well as annual events yet to occur.
Father’s Day Breakfast
One of the annual events which did take place this week was the annual Father’s Day breakfast. Held on each campus, the event has grown in significance, not only in respect to the numbers which attend but also the opportunity for the college and fathers to make connections over a shared meal. We all lead busy lives but it is of critical importance to create meaningful opportunities for dialogue between parents and the College and in doing so send a strong sense of unity and connection to our young people. Our core common purpose is to provide opportunities for our young people to thrive. For students to maximise their true potential parents and teachers must work in partnership. This will only occur if relationships are forged and nourished. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the many fathers for their attendance and the Student Representative Council (SRC) for their work in planning and setting up the event.
College Student Leaders 2025
This week has seen the nominations for College student leaders finalised, speeches presented and voting on leaders. It is a culmination of months of work where prospective leaders have been briefed, scrutinised and counselled. The voting system to elect leaders is structured in such a way that student voice is the most prominent one in selecting the successful candidates. Our college leaders spoke passionately about wanting to make a difference. All suggested that they were inspired by those student leaders who had gone before them. Now it is the turn of the next group of student leaders who have been chosen by their peers to serve them. I look forward to announcing our successful candidates in a special edition of the newsletter next Friday.
The Final Chapter for our Class of 2024
Over the course of the last term and a half, I have taken the opportunity to meet with groups of Year 12 students over lunch. The purpose being to gain a sense of how they’re travelling, a temperature check if you like, and to enquire as to whether there are any additional supports they require. At the beginning of each gathering I ask a very specific question: “are you comfortable in your learning?”. It’s a loaded question because the strong response and message is in fact that our Year 12s must be uncomfortable in their learning. It is only in this state that they are seen to strive to reach beyond their existing capacities and understandings to get the most of themselves and their learning.
Our Year 12s enter a critical period where they cannot afford to have distractions or to take their foot off the pedal. It is why we have placed a week of practice exams in the week commencing September 9th. This will provide students with enough time to gain the valuable feedback required as they enter into a significant period of revision which should be defined by students taking the lead in their learning, asking many questions, revising properly, attempting many practice exam questions and seeking assistance from their subject teachers. I look forward to witnessing this strong work ethic across the last 5 weeks of formal classes.
Four Cs
The 4C’s Showcase is a performance program for secondary students in year 7 - 12 that centres around Cultivating Creative Cultures with Communities, with the aim to celebrate the different cultures in our local community. I was privileged to attend this year’s performance of our very own St Peter’s College 4C group on Monday night. It was a wonderful performance showcasing cultural dance, custom and music. Congratulations is extended to our forty-two participants, ably and generously supported by Ms Lark and Ms Lewis, for so willingly showing off their talents to a packed and lively audience at Bunjil Place.
Vale – Vincent Atulia
Last week we learnt of the sudden passing of past student Vincent Atulia. Vincent, a member of Augustine House, began as a Year 7 student in 2013, concluding his time with us in 2016.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Atulia family and in particular Miriama (Year 11), Ofisa (Year 9) and Joseph (Year 7), siblings of Vincent who are still within our community.
Grant Vincent Eternal Rest, O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.
Enjoy the week ahead.
