Year 12

The Year 12 students have finished their six years of secondary education! Well, nearly.

Year 12 VCE students will sit their exams starting on Tuesday 29th October.

A few Year 12 VCE-VM students have small parts of their program to complete, which will be done over the next week or two.  Students who are required to attend school will be personally notified.

To celebrate the last day of Year 12 classes, students came to school on Thursday in fancy dress and participate in the activities at the Leisure Centre. Breakfast was and morning tea was provided with lots of fun activities and music and finishing the morning off with a colour run.

Year 11

Exams for Semester 2 will start in Week 6 (11 November) for the Year 11 students. There are no regular classes during this time, and students are only required to attend school for their exams. The exam schedule will appear on the students' Compass timetable, showing their exams' date, day, and time. If students miss an exam, it will be rescheduled.

For students who are undertaking a Year 12 VCE exam during week 6, the Year 11 exam will be rescheduled.

Year 11 VCE-VM students who still need to complete their learning outcomes will be required to attend school to complete this work during Week 6 (11-15 November).  Students who wish to take up additional work placement during this time are to contact the VCE-VM Leader or Careers team to arrange the appropriate paperwork.

Year 11 students enrolled in VET courses will complete their first year of studies in Week 3, on either Wednesday 23rd or Friday 25th of October. Some students may finish their first-year studies early, while others will attend additional classes. Communication regarding individual requirements beyond the above date will be sent directly to students and carers. For any inquiries, please contact VET Coordinator, Sarah Pedlow at the University Campus.

VCE VM Community Awareness Day

The Year 11 VCE VM students have been busy preparing for Community Awareness Day, an initiative to raise awareness of poverty, homelessness, racism, and young mothers in Latrobe Valley.

On Thursday, October 31st, the students will participate in a 3-hour Continuous Walk around Churchill, beginning at 10 a.m. from the Churchill Community Hub on Phillip Parade.

A Community Soup Lunch prepared by the students will be provided.

All members of the community are welcome to attend.

Mock Interviews

Last Thursday, our VCE VM students participated in a mock interview event, supported by local employers and community organisations. This event was a fantastic opportunity for our senior students to utilise the skills they have learnt during their VCE VM studies by undergoing a mock interview with two employers on a panel. The students were absolutely buzzing after their interviews, thanks to the employer’s kindness and support on the day.  This highly beneficial event provided the students with so much confidence and they are now ready for the ‘real thing’ regarding their future job applications.  A big thank you to the following employers and organisations who gave up their time to assist our students in this event: Latrobe City, Latrobe Community Health Services, Ambulance Victoria, Baw Baw Llen, Gippswater, Onlineiseasy, PFG Group (Fabrication Rotomoulding), Tequa and The Smith Family.

Sport & Rec Surfing

Last week, the VET Sport & Recreation students traded their textbooks for surfboards, embarking on an exhilarating adventure at Venus Bay with the renowned Offshore Surf School. As the group gathered, the conditions were perfect, and their excitement was palpable as they prepared to take on the waves.

The day began with an informative session led by experienced instructors who shared essential safety tips and techniques. Students learned about wave dynamics, paddling strategies, and how to pop up on their boards. After the briefing, it was time to hit the water!

With boards in hand, students dashed to the beach, laughter and shouts of encouragement filling the air. The thrill of catching their first wave was infectious, as some students quickly found their rhythm while others faced the challenge with determination. Instructors provided personalised guidance, helping participants improve their skills and build confidence in the water.

As the sun began to shine, the group gathered on the beach to share stories of their triumphs and tumbles. The camaraderie fostered through this shared experience highlighted the importance of teamwork and support in both sports and recreation.

This surfing lesson not only offered students a taste of adventure but also reinforced their understanding of water safety and the physical benefits of surfing as a recreational activity. With smiles all around, the day ended on a high note, leaving everyone eager for the next week's (their second and final) surfing lesson.
