Our Year 12 cohort of students enjoyed their celebration day yesterday, where they had the opportunity to decorate the courtyard with lots of coloured streamers and spider webs, balloons, glad wrap and various other mediums. They then headed to the Leisure Centre, where they enjoyed a cooked breakfast before engaging is a range of fun activities including a blow-up human hungry hippo game, a seemingly never-ending epic game of dodgeball, a Jenga tower, and other games. The morning concluded with a colour run that left many students and a few staff with multi-coloured hair and clothing but all with smiles on their faces.

Thanks to organiser Sally Kirstine and all the other staff who supported the event. Congratulations to the students for their energetic participation and positive attitude toward making it a fun day for all. Their conduct was exemplary, and they can be proud of the manner in which they celebrated the end of their secondary schooling.

The next combined event for this cohort will be the more formal recognition of their school completion at the Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 20th November at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre.

Year 12 VCE Exams

The Year 12 VCE exams commence in earnest next week and those students involved will be busy preparing to do their best over the next few weeks. This also includes those Year 11 VCE students studying a Year 12 subject. Year 11 VCE students will also undergo exams soon, although these will be focused into the one week.

We wish all students well and remind them that the campus is open during exam periods so they can study and access support as they need it.

Activities, Excursions, Events

Over the past few weeks and into the next couple of weeks, we have been busy as a campus with a myriad of activities. Some groups are completing projects and applying their learning in practical ways and in different environments. Many of these have been highlighted on our Kurnai College Facebook page. I encourage everyone to look as they demonstrate the opportunities our students receive and the fantastic approach they have to these experiences. The VM and VPC cohorts have been particularly involved in these and have left a positive legacy in the many areas they have covered. A few highlights in particular were the market held at the parent-teacher conversations at the end of term, the camp at Caringal Scout Camp, the beach clean-up excursion, mock interviews, and the upcoming community awareness day. We have also had VET Sport & Rec surfing trips, the VET Health Fed Uni experience day, and all our Year 11 students will be soon involved in the Year 12 preparation camp.

Thanks to the terrific team of teachers and education support staff who enable all these opportunities for our students.

Headstart

Our Headstart program will commence with 2025 classes on Monday 25th November for two weeks. This program supports our students in getting an insight into their subjects for next year and making a start in learning relevant concepts and skills. This is an essential part of preparing for a successful 2025. Students will receive further information over the next few weeks as timetables are finalised.
