Pharaoh Exhibition NGV - Student Perspectives

Two students from the Art Academy and their perspectives of viewing the Pharaoh Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria: International

Angela Lukaitis, Year 11

Being a part of the excursion to the ‘Pharaoh’ exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria: International was such a wonderful and intriguing experience.  The introduction to this exhibition provided background information to specific artefacts which made seeing the pieces more meaningful.  It was surprising to learn that the smallest artefacts carried the most meaning.  A stand-out feature to me was the experience of the changing passage of time as you moved through the exhibition.  It was interesting to gain an insight into the preparation and organisation of curating this exhibition.

This experience was very enjoyable, and I am so grateful to have been a part of this.

Meredith Susanto, Year 8

The Art Academy had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Pharaoh NGV exhibition on 5 September.  We were given a brief introduction and explanation of the exhibitions’ purpose by NGV staff at the beginning of the excursion.  This provided us with information about the lifestyle and customs of Pharaoh’s in Ancient Egypt. A wide range of original objects were transported from the British Museum and on show in the exhibition.  There were many artefacts to be viewed when exploring the spaces within the displays.  The experience gave us a glimpse of what life was like in Ancient Egypt.  To enhance the realism and uniqueness of the experience, the gallery employed creative lighting and audio effects.  We found this exhibition unique and special and we were very lucky to have had the chance to see it.
