In the Kitchen with Chris

In Grade 456JC cooking this week, we made the same dishes as 456H did last week but with a vegan twist.

We made  Silverbeet, Pumpkin and Potato Torte (vegan); Silverbeet and Potato Torte and a vegan and gluten free Pumpkin Salad.

From the garden we used Butternut and Red Kauri Pumpkins, Potatoes, Spring Onions, Silverbeet, Parsley and Chives and Coriander.  We also used frozen blanched pumpkin and some beans we blanched and froze last term.

Lenny, Levi, Patrick and their group did a great job peeling and chopping the pumpkins for the salad and the Silverbeet, Pumpkin and Potato Torte. Sophia, Hirini, Sasha and their group washed, peeled and chopped the potatoes.  Levi and his group showed their great chopping skills and attention to detail to prepare all the silverbeet leaves and stems for the tortes and salad.

Paige, Angel, Elsie, Anais and their group measured and mixed the ingredients for the pastry for the tortes.  They did a great job kneading and rolling out the pastry very thinly.

After preparing all the ingredients and baking the pumpkin for the Pumpkin Salad, everyone worked well in their groups to make and cook the tortes.  Chloe, Angel and their group worked well in their team to assemble and serve the Pumpkin Salad.   It was a great cooking session.

Well done everyone!
